Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred in a related discipline, or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of ten years of related work experience in reinsurance, with five years management experience.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of reinsurance structures, contracts and reinsurance industry practice and working knowledge in other related fields in addition to experience with legacy reinsurance issues such as reserving, commutations and insolvencies.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment.
  • Leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Responsibilities
  • Strategic management of legacy/run-off business for both ceded and assumed claims including prompt reporting and claims handling; compliant with regulatory and financial requirements for all matters related to legacy business; regular collaboration with CNA’s direct claims team.
  • Ensures timely and accurate delivery of payment of premium for all corporate ceded treaties; work with CNA’s affiliates to ensure US premium is paid for contracts placed outside of the US. Collaborate with other areas as needed for accruals or other financial requirements.
  • Manage relationship and is main point contact with external third-party reinsurance companies (ceded and assumed), maintain consistency in handling of claims involving CNA.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements to permit the corporation to benefit from reinsurance recoverable on the financial statements, oversees collections on all outstanding balances.
  • Partners with legal advisers on issues related to contract formulation. Provides business expertise on contract matters.
  • Fosters the development and implements strategies for cessions and collections of legacy reinsurance business, negotiating with reinsurers when appropriate.
  • Leads, directs and has full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
  • Directs claims handling and philosophy for assumed legacy reinsurance business, seek opportunities for finality where possible.
  • Play an integral role in developing CNA’s strategy and response to issues such as insolvencies, disputes, actuarial analyses and direct claims collaboration.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

CNA FINANCIAL ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER 2026 NET INCOME OF $0.78 PER SHARE AND CORE INCOME OF $0.83 PER SHARE * Net income of $211 million versus $274 million in the prior year quarter; core income of $225 million versus $281 million in the prior year quarter. * P&C core income of $248 million versus $311 million, reflects lower underlying underwriting results and unfavorable prior period development partially offset by higher net investment income. * Life & Group core loss of $9 million versus core income of $6 million in the prior year quarter. * Corporate & Other core loss of $14 million versus $36 million in the prior year quarter. * Net investment income of $610 million, reflects an $18 million increase from fixed income securities and other investments to $568 million and a $12 million decrease from limited partnerships and common stock to $42 million. * P&C combined ratio of 102.2%, compared with 98.4% in the prior year quarter, including a 3.6 point impact related to catastrophes compared with 3.8 points in the prior year quarter. The current year quarter also includes an unfavorable impact of 4.1 points from net prior period development driven by excess casualty and professional E&O lines in recent accident years, compared to 2.5 points in the prior year quarter. * Catastrophe impacts of $97 million pretax in both the current and prior year quarters. * P&C underlying combined ratio was 94.5%, compared with 92.1% in the prior year quarter. Net investment losses for the quarter were $14 million compared to $7 million in the prior year quarter. Core income for the quarter was $225 million, or $0.83 per share, versus $281 million, or $1.03 per share, in the prior year quarter. Its Property & Casualty segments delivered core income of $248 million for the first quarter of 2026, a decrease of $63 million compared to the prior year quarter reflecting lower underlying underwriting results and unfavorable prior period development partially offset by higher net investment income. P&C segments generated net written premium growth of 1%. Its Life & Group segment produced a core loss of $9 million for the first quarter of 2026 versus core income of $6 million in the prior year quarter.
