Requirements
  • Be a nurse graduate who is board eligible from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Hold an Associate's degree or higher in Nursing, or a nursing diploma.
  • Obtain a valid Mississippi nursing license within 120 days of hire.
  • Have knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools, and programs.
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work in a team environment.
  • Meet the listed physical and environmental demands, including frequent standing and walking, frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching, and occasional lifting and carrying of more than 100 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse until obtaining a Mississippi Board of Nursing license.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care after being deemed competent, as delegated by the registered nurse, in a safe and therapeutic manner.
  • Record vital signs, intake, outputs, pulse oximetry, and weights accurately and report changes to the registered nurse.
  • Assist and prepare patients for treatment, examinations, and procedures as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Administer and perform baths and basic hygiene measures as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Assist with collecting and delivering specimens to appropriate laboratories in a timely manner.
  • Weigh, lift, turn, and reposition patients using good body mechanics.
  • Submit proper patient charges for supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner and report equipment needing repair to the nurse manager or charge nurse.
  • Assist with serving dietary trays and feeding patients as needed.
  • Provide and document care based on the patient's expectations, age, and developmental level.
  • Adhere to the University of Mississippi Medical Center infection-control policy.
  • Attend and participate in continuing-education and in-service programs.
