The Hampshire Clinic in Basingstoke will launch the new outpatient paediatric services from Monday, July 6, offering private GP and specialist care in gastroenterology, colorectal, orthopaedics and urology. The Hampshire Clinic (Image: The Hampshire Clinic) Heather Dob, executive director of The Hampshire Clinic, said: "Many private hospitals are exclusively adult focused, so by launching a dedicated paediatric service Basingstoke Gazette has a unique opportunity to widen its patient demographic and enhance the support Basingstoke Gazette provide to its local community. "We hope to provide patients and their families with access to same day appointments in a comfortable setting." Paediatric consultants have joined the hospital to support the expanded services. While the initial focus will be on outpatient care, the hospital aims to introduce inpatient and surgical services by early 2027. The private GP services will offer appointments most days of the week and include a rapid response team. Patients can access services through private medical insurance or self-funding. With demand for NHS paediatric services continuing to grow the senior management team at The Hampshire Clinic believe the launch of a dedicated children and young people's service at the hospital will provide additional support locally.

Circle Health Group, which operates The Beaumont Hospital, has teamed up with Arthritis UK as the charity's first-ever surgery support partner. The partnership will sponsor Arthritis UK's online community platform, Arthritis Connect, offering individuals a dedicated space to ask questions, share experiences, and connect with others living with the condition. Droitwich hospital performs first VELYS robotic knee surgery. 26th March Orthopaedic surgeon Shahbaz Malik with the theatre team at Droitwich Spa Hospital (Image: Circle Health Group) A hospital has made a breakthrough in surgical technology. Droitwich Spa Hospital has carried out its first robotic-assisted knee replacement using the VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution, an advanced surgical system designed to improve patient outcomes and speed up recovery. Produced by Johnson & Johnson MedTech, the VELYS system works with the ATTUNE Knee System and is designed to help surgeons perform precise knee replacements through real-time data and surgical guidance. It can optimise implant placement, preserve soft tissue around the knee joint, and operate without the need for CT scans. The ATTUNE Knee System has been shown to improve patient-reported outcomes by better aligning with each patient's anatomy, resulting in improved stability and range of motion after surgery. Shahbaz Malik, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Droitwich Spa Hospital, performed the first procedure using the new system on March 13. He said: "Introducing VELYS technology at Droitwich Spa Hospital is an important step forward for patients across Worcestershire needing treatment for knee arthritis and orthopaedic surgery. "This advanced robotic-assisted system allows us to perform both total and partial knee replacements with enhanced precision, tailored to each patient's individual anatomy. "For patients, this means a more personalised surgical experience, with the potential for less pain, faster recovery times, and improved long-term outcomes. "Ultimately, it enables us to deliver high-quality care closer to home for the communities we serve." Droitwich Spa Hospital has a strong record of patient outcomes in knee replacement surgery and is recognised as a gold accredited provider of orthopaedic surgery by the National Joint Registry. The addition of the VELYS system is expected to further boost its reputation for clinical excellence. Circle Health Group hires chief operating officer. Circle Health Group has appointed Owen James as chief operating officer. James (pictured) joins from PortmanDentex where he has filled a number of roles over the past six years, including chief operating officer and more recently as managing director for UK and Ireland. He began his career in the British Army, serving as an infantry officer in the Welsh Guards for five years. In recent years, James worked for Boston Consulting Group where he specialised in retail and consumer goods, later moving to Waitrose where he spent four years leading strategy as well as managing the pricing and promotions teams. James' primary responsibility will be for the operational and financial performance of Circle's UK wide network of 54 hospitals. He has also been tasked with looking at patient satisfaction, growth opportunities and supporting the delivery of Circle's wider commercial strategy. James said: "I am honoured to be joining an extremely talented team at what is a pivotal moment in the organisation's history. I look forward to supporting my colleagues across the business when I join Circle later in November."
