Requirements
  • Report discrepancies immediately to the Director of Maternal Child Health.
  • Maintain appropriate knowledge of hospital policies and grievance procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient, participant, and employee information.
  • Attend a minimum of two staff meetings.
  • Maintain a current Basic Life Support card and annual review of hospital policies.
  • Have a high school education or equivalent.
  • Have 1 year of Medical Records Department (Health Information Management) experience.
  • Have 1 to 2 years of experience processing birth certificates in an acute care facility.
  • Use networked personal computers for data entry and database relationships.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and awareness of the importance and impact of data quality.
  • Use Microsoft Office applications and serve as a resource to staff on their use.
  • Be proficient in keyboard typing, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Have knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Have knowledge of acute-care demographic and clinical data elements, medical terminology, and formulae.
  • Have knowledge of Joint Commission standards, especially those related to performance improvement.
  • Complete birth records and other required forms according to established guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Review, verify, and enter data into various databases, electronic programs, and paper forms as required.
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Function independently and as a member of a team.
Responsibilities
  • Provide quality, clerical, and data-collection support in the Maternal Child Health Department.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of supplies and forms, including typing and photocopying.
  • Order materials with the approval of the Director of Maternal Child Health.
  • Inventory and order all handouts for the supply cart as needed.
  • Review all files and send reports to the Director of Maternal Child Health.
  • Submit the Time and Attendance Exception Sheet to the Director of Maternal Child Health and then to Payroll.
  • Assist with walk-in tours and maternity tours when available for clients unable to schedule a group tour.
  • Complete participants’ care effectively and efficiently in a manner that benefits the client and maintains the hospital’s budget.
  • Bring grievances and concerns to the Director of Maternal Child Health and follow proper channels if unsatisfied with the process.
Desired Qualifications
  • Have 1 to 2 years of experience reporting newborn screening data.
