Requirements
  • A 4-year degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • At least 10 years of hands-on technology experience, including deep experience in cloud security and adjacent disciplines such as cloud platform engineering, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, continuous integration and continuous delivery, automation, identity, and detection and response integration.
  • At least 4 years of experience managing engineering teams in a platform, infrastructure, software development, or security engineering context.
  • Experience hiring, growing, and retaining senior engineering talent and building team operating models from the ground up.
  • Experience owning engineering management responsibilities including hiring, performance, career growth, on-call culture, code review standards, postmortems, and operational excellence.
  • A demonstrated track record of running production platforms with clear service-level objectives, on-call coverage, change management, and continuous-improvement loops.
  • Experience driving multi-quarter roadmaps end-to-end, from problem framing through rollout, adoption, and steady-state operation, and delivering predictably against them.
  • Experience making and defending build-versus-buy decisions, owning vendor relationships and tool lifecycles, and determining when to invest in custom engineering versus using a platform.
  • Experience leading teams that operate cloud security platforms at scale, including cloud security posture management, infrastructure-as-code scanning, SaaS security posture management, security configuration management, and cloud workload protection.
  • Hands-on experience with public cloud, preferably Google Cloud Platform, and with private cloud and Kubernetes environments at enterprise scale.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes and admission controller frameworks, including rollout patterns that move from detection to enforcement without disrupting developers.
  • Strong working knowledge of infrastructure as code, including Terraform or equivalent tools, and policy as code, such as Rego, with experience integrating policy enforcement into continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Experience building and operating findings pipelines that integrate cloud security signals into enterprise remediation and governance platforms.
  • Experience integrating cloud telemetry into enterprise security information and event management and security orchestration, automation, and response pipelines.
  • Experience using varied security tools and technologies across diverse environments and implementing end-to-end solutions aligned with security architecture requirements.
  • Hands-on experience integrating security tooling with developer workflows, including continuous integration and continuous delivery, source control, ticketing, and internal developer platforms.
  • Strong understanding of secure software development practices, network security fundamentals, and modern cloud-native architectures.
  • Solid understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and their emerging security considerations, including enforcement through cloud security tooling.
  • Automation-first engineering experience with hands-on fluency in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Python or Go, and a track record of building reusable platforms and paved roads.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with security architecture, cloud platform, identity, network security, data security, detection and response, vulnerability management, business information security officers, and product engineering teams.
  • Experience representing team work, risks, and tradeoffs to senior leadership and explaining technical details to staff engineers.
  • Understanding of security management workflows in large enterprise organizations and complex environments, as well as the current threat landscape.
  • Working knowledge of security frameworks, standards, and best practices, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Center for Internet Security Benchmarks, and ISO/IEC 27001.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Responsibilities
  • Lead, build, and develop a team of cloud security platform, automation, and governance engineers responsible for implementing and operating cloud security controls.
  • Establish stakeholder communication, work with partner teams, drive requirements, and advocate for efficient and secure engineering practices.
  • Build and manage a high-performing engineering team and recommend staffing levels, operating procedures, tools, and systems.
  • Provide career development and performance management to the engineering team.
  • Set the team's engineering culture and standards for code quality, testing, code review, on-call hygiene, postmortems, and operational excellence.
  • Own the end-to-end engineering, deployment, configuration, and ongoing operation of cloud security platforms across public and private cloud environments.
  • Operate cloud security platforms as production systems, owning availability, performance, observability, capacity, upgrade cadence, outage response, service-level objectives, and on-call coverage.
  • Own the implementation of infrastructure-as-code scanning policies in continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Implement and operate Kubernetes admission controller policies across private and public cloud environments and own the rollout strategy from detection to enforcement.
  • Build and operate capabilities supporting cloud incident response in partnership with Detection and Response.
  • Translate policy requirements into a prioritized engineering roadmap and deliver against it predictably.
  • Drive multi-quarter initiatives from problem framing and scoping through design, build, rollout, adoption, and steady-state operation.
  • Make build-versus-buy decisions and own the lifecycle of cloud security tools, including vendor relationships, evaluations, proofs of concept, contract input, capability adoption, and retirement.
  • Drive adoption of the team's controls across Target Technology, including onboarding, exception and governance workflows, and developer enablement.
  • Treat the cloud security control plane as a product by investing in automation, self-service, and platform thinking.
  • Continuously reduce operational toil for the team and the engineering organization through paved roads, better defaults, and faster continuous integration and continuous delivery feedback.
  • Own the developer experience of the team's controls, including error messages, documented escape hatches, exception handling, and feedback loops with product engineering.
  • Own the findings pipeline by aggregating signals from configuration hardening, cloud security posture management, infrastructure as code, admission controller exceptions, and SaaS security posture management, then delivering them to enterprise remediation dashboards with service-level agreements.
  • Partner with Cloud Platform, Identity Security, Network Security, Data Security, Detection and Response, Vulnerability Management, business information security officers, and product engineering on requirements, rollout plans, and operational ownership.
  • Represent the team's roadmap, risk reduction, operational health, and tradeoffs to senior leadership.
