Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field from a four-year college or university is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in stormwater and/or groundwater projects is required.
  • Strong written and verbal skills are required.
  • The ability to effectively present information to governmental boards, public groups, and/or boards of directors is required.
  • Experience with stormwater routing modeling, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations implemented by state and federal regulatory agencies, including the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, South Florida Water Management District, United States Army Corps of Engineers, and Florida Department of Transportation, is desired.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • The ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation is required.
  • An excellent driving record and valid driver's license are required.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in water resources engineering projects at the proposal, planning, and execution stages for engineering studies and construction projects.
  • Lead and take responsibility for conceptual, preliminary, and final construction design drawings for water control structures, regional flood mitigation projects, and water quality improvement projects.
  • Prepare stormwater management plans involving hydraulic and hydrologic modeling analyses, hydrogeology, design concepts, climatic data assessment, flood assessments, floodplain mapping and modeling, flood mitigation designs, natural channel design, environmental compliance, and regulatory permitting.
  • Perform technical review and seal engineering design drawings where applicable.
  • Use stormwater management modeling software, including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and StormWise/ICPR4.
  • Oversee pre-construction, during-construction, and post-construction implementation of water resources projects and coordinate field work.
  • Provide peer review of reports and designs prepared by internal water resources staff.
  • Liaise with clients, agencies, and other stakeholders to determine project requirements and obtain approvals.
  • Schedule projects to ensure project and client needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
  • Manage the financial aspects of projects.
  • Supervise CAD designers and coordinate projects with other departments, professions, and agencies.
  • Supervise permit technicians and administrative staff in completing permit applications and advancing the permit application process.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Professional Engineer license is preferred.
  • Construction experience is preferred but not required.
  • Cross-training and opportunities to work on environmental projects are available.
