Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of full-time, paid, professional experience in an education, social work or juvenile justice setting, preferably with a school-age population in an urban setting.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • For bilingual candidates: Speaks, reads and writes English and the foreign language fluently.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of compulsory attendance and truancy laws in Pennsylvania and School District attendance policy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategies and interventions that improve student attendance and reduce absenteeism and truancy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and techniques used in effective program planning, design and administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current methods, processes and techniques utilized in the implementation of program initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of District and/or community based resources available to support program initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures and in making decisions consistent with program policies and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a personal computer.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral or written directions.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess the effectiveness of programmatic activities and to make cogent recommendations for modifications as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to process multiple tasks simultaneously, adhere to timelines, and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and tact in handling sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
Responsibilities
  • Support schools with attendance interventions/strategies to improve attendance using evidence based strategies and Attendance Improvement Plans specific to the school.
  • Collaborates with school leaders and staff as well as School District of Philadelphia (SDP) network-based leaders and staff to support student attendance.
  • Provides coaching and implementation support within and across SDP schools related to MTSS and student attendance.
  • Supports schools in developing and maintaining effective team structures to support the MTSS process to address student attendance.
  • Supports school with establishing systems and processes to ensure attendance and truancy protocols are being implemented both according to policy and best practices.
  • Collaborates with school leadership and SDP school-support staff on the development and implementation of Schoolwide Plans.
  • Under the direction of the Office of Attendance and Truancy, collaborates with network Assistant Superintendents, colleagues in the Office of Student Support Services, and other SDP offices to ensure aligned, coherent support that responds to the identified needs of students and staff in schools.
  • Analyzes student attendance data to identify attendance concerns, monitor the effectiveness of strategies and interventions, as well as inform where support is needed to increase student attendance and reduce absenteeism and truancy.
  • Develops and facilitates professional development (trainings, presentations, meetings) for schools, families, District-based staff, and other stakeholders related to student attendance.
  • Supports the partnership between schools and community-based agencies in support of truancy intervention and prevention services initiatives.
  • Engages in support of special projects where student attendance is concerned
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the administrator.
