Responsibilities
  • Perform duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist, including entering patient and drug information into pharmacy systems, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medication accuracy, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately, including compounded medications and specialty drugs, according to prescriptions and established protocols.
  • Provide advanced technical support in specialized areas such as oncology, sterile compounding, or pediatric pharmacy.
  • Assist with preparing intravenous (IV) admixtures, chemotherapy, and other specialized medications using aseptic techniques.
  • Perform medication reconciliation and assist with medication therapy management (MTM) services under pharmacist guidance.
  • Assist with patient education regarding medication use, administration, potential side effects, and storage.
  • Address patient inquiries and concerns and refer complex cases to the pharmacist as needed.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including monitoring medication errors and implementing corrective actions.
  • Assist in training new pharmacy technicians and interns.
  • Complete assigned charging and crediting functions, including functions from miscellaneous sources.
  • Stock medications in appropriate locations, rotate stock, check expiration dates, and help maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of pharmacy activities, including medication preparation and dispensing records.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training regarding developments in pharmacy practice and technology.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and follow company policies and procedures regarding pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Work with pharmacists, other healthcare professionals, and pharmacy staff to support patient care and efficient pharmacy operations.
  • Support medication adherence programs and other patient support initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and report suspected concerns or violations to a supervisor or Compliance Department.
  • Complete annual compliance training.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician II and/or specialized experience is preferred.
