Requirements
  • An Associate's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Three years of technical experience in a laboratory setting.
  • One of the listed professional laboratory licenses or certifications, including an applicable Blood Bank, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist, or other accepted state or American Society for Clinical Pathology credential.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing 0–25 pounds and occasionally handle objects weighing 25–50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot, leg, hand, and arm movements.
  • Ability to use near and distance vision and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to hear alarms and malfunctioning machinery and communicate information orally.
  • Frequent keyboard use and data entry; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping; and rare climbing.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with technical-component requirements and practices mandated by regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Verify test procedures and enroll in an approved proficiency-testing program.
  • Resolve technical problems and ensure accurate reporting and properly functioning systems.
  • Assist in evaluating individual competencies and ensure personnel performing test procedures maintain competency.
  • Perform and manage quality-control testing to monitor instrument operation, recognize trends, apply quality-control rules, and initiate troubleshooting.
  • Update policies and procedure manuals in areas of responsibility.
  • Participate in performance-improvement activities and monitor staff compliance, reporting noncompliance to the appropriate leader.
  • Participate in meetings with peer laboratory sections in the region to enhance testing quality and maintain standardization.
  • Perform routine and statistical analyses as needed to provide accurate and timely results in a 24/7 laboratory operation.
  • Perform special analyses and specimen processing as needed.
  • Assist leadership on projects of medium to high complexity and size.
  • Assist with the laboratory proficiency-testing program.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
