Sazerac has completed a significant acquisition of a Kentucky distillery, boosting its distilling capacity amid a broader industry downturn. The move comes as the bourbon giant pursues a $15 billion takeover of Brown-Forman, the owner of Jack Daniel's. The acquisition expands Sazerac's production capabilities at a time when the spirits industry faces challenging market conditions. The company's aggressive growth strategy appears undeterred by the slowdown, with the Brown-Forman deal potentially representing an even larger step forward. Sazerac, which already owns brands including Buffalo Trace and Fireball, has been actively consolidating its position in the American whiskey market. The Kentucky distillery purchase adds manufacturing capacity whilst the company works towards finalising what would be one of the spirits industry's most significant transactions.
New Orleans-founded Sazerac bid for Brown-Forman rejected. Reuters//July 27, 2026// KEY TAKEAWAYS: * Brown-Forman said Sazerac's unsolicited takeover bid was "not actionable." * New Orleans-founded Sazerac reportedly offered $32 per share, valuing Brown-Forman at about $15 billion. * A majority of Brown family shareholders backed the board and opposed the proposal. * The bid follows Brown-Forman's failed merger talks with Pernod Ricard and CEO succession plans. Brown-Forman, maker of Jack Daniel's whiskey, said on Sunday its board had received an unsolicited takeover bid from privately held spirits company Sazerac, but concluded the offer was "not actionable." New Orleans-founded Sazerac, whose rye drink is the city's official cocktail, made a $32-per-share cash offer on May 1 for Brown-Forman, according to sources familiar with the matter. Sazerac, owned by Chairman William Goldring and his family, last week sent a letter to Brown-Forman's Class A shareholders, most of whom are Brown family members and some board directors, the sources said. Sazerac, whose 500 brands include Southern Comfort, Fireball and Myers's Rum, wrote that it sought to engage with the board about the offer terms and strategic rationale but substantive discussions had not taken place yet, according to the letter viewed by Reuters. The company said it stands ready to improve the terms of its offer if the board engages. However, Wolf Pen Branch, a group of Brown family members representing a majority of Brown-Forman's Class A shares, on Sunday said it remains confident in the company's brands, adding Sazerac's proposal does not align with its vision for Brown-Forman's future. Sazerac declined to comment. Brown-Forman, which also makes Woodford Reserve bourbon and Chambord liqueur, did not immediately respond to a comment request. Reuters reported in May that Brown-Forman rejected the $32-per-share cash takeover offer from Sazerac that valued the company at about $15 billion. The offer included the option for Class A shareholders to roll over into the combined entity with governance protections, enhanced liquidity and a dividend higher than Brown-Forman's current payout, according to the letter. Sazerac's offer came after Brown-Forman and Pernod Ricard ended merger discussions in late April, having failed to agree on mutually acceptable terms. Any sale would need the approval of the Brown family who have run the company since 1870. Earlier this month, Louisville, Kentucky-based Brown-Forman announced its president and CEO Lawson Whiting would retire effective upon the appointment of a successor. MVIA wins Brown-Forman global logistics tender for merch and POS distribution. The Czech company will oversee supply chain logistics and distribution of merchandising and POS materials across Europe, Africa, and Asia for the maker of Jack Daniel's and other world-renowned spirit. Brno, 21 July 2026 - MVIA has entered into a collaboration agreement with the global Brown-Forman group, whose premium portfolio includes iconic brands such as Jack Daniel's, Diplomático, Gin Mare and Herradura. Through its MVIA HUB platform, the Czech company will help unify the order and payment processing and logistical distribution management of merch and POS materials across Europe, Africa and Asia, while streamlining collaboration between regional and local teams. "Brown-Forman is an important partner for us not only because of its scale, and sophisticated supply chain needs. This collaboration allows us to fully deploy the comprehensive enterprise capabilities of the MVIA HUB platform to support complex multi-regional fulfillment workflows. Projects like this help us demonstrate the robustness of our solutions at a truly multinational level," says Jiří Smejkal, CEO of MVIA. MVIA succeeded in an international tender in which Brown-Forman was looking for a more efficient way to manage the physical supply chain and distribution of merch and POS materials across multiple markets. A key objective of the initiative is to enhance digital visibility, optimize user experience, and centralize workflows within a unified global framework. The first phase of the cooperation will focus on taking over and managing merch and POSM inventory, fulfillment, and distribution to participating regions. During this phase, MVIA will provide logistical support for 16 brands across several product categories. The second phase will include further development of the MVIA HUB platform and the implementation of so-called Buying Windows while Brown-Forman continues to independently control and retain all procurement and vendor tendering and selection functions. "Merchandise and POS materials are important to our market strategy. As we scale our cooperation across regions, we require a solution that delivers clarity, reliability and practical execution for both our regional and local teams. Partnering with MVIA and integrating MVIA HUB will allow us to standardise how we manage fulfillment, streamline the ordering process and seamlessly coordinate every step from warehousing to final distribution, while maintaining an entirely independent and competitive internal sourcing environment" says Valentina Schiavoni, Director - Regional Procurement & POS Europe, Africa & Asia Pacific at Brown-Forman. MVIA HUB builds on MVIA's long-term efforts to digitalise the procurement of promotional items and POS materials. The company developed its first online solution for promotional item management for Coca-Cola as early as 2004, at a time when fax-based ordering was still common practice across the industry. About MVIA. MVIA is a Czech company that has been providing development, design, manufacturing and sourcing of merch, POS materials and branded equipment since 1992. Glenglassaugh 15 Years expands the distillery's core range. Matured in Pedro Ximénez sherry and Spanish wine casks With Glenglassaugh's latest release, whisky enthusiasts now have the opportunity to enjoy not only the Glenglassaugh 12 Year Old but also an older, permanently available version of this Highland Single Malt Whisky: owner Brown-Forman has unveiled the Glenglassaugh 15 Year Old in a recent press release. Master Blender Dr Rachel Barrie is responsible for the malts from the distillery, which was founded in 1875 above Sandend Bay. "The 15 Years Old is a magnificent natural evolution, showing how our coastal location shapes the lush Glenglassaugh spirit over time. Creating this expression, I was inspired by time spent on the beach at Sandend Bay, while the sun sets over the North Sea. I've layered Pedro Ximénez Sherry and Spanish wine casks to give breathtaking and indulgent depth of flavour. Every sip offers the signature coastal character of Glenglassaugh, enveloped in a luxurious date, orange papaya and chocolate elixir," she explains. The Glenglassaugh 15 Years Old is bottled at natural colour with an alcohol content of 46% vol and will be available in Germany from early August 2026 with an RRP of 79.99 euros. Alongside the Glenglassaugh 12 Year Old, it complements the no-age-statement whiskies Glenglassaugh Sandend and Glenglassaugh Portsoy, as well as the distillery's Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection. Tasting notes for the Glenglassaugh 15 Years Old.
