Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of relevant work experience are required.
  • A proven mechanical background with hands-on troubleshooting and mechanical installation experience is required.
  • Knowledge of ship system operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, shipbuilding processes, mechanical systems, industry regulations, and testing standards is required.
  • The ability to read, understand, and follow drawings, technical manuals, test plans, test procedures, and other technical documentation is required.
  • The ability to lift 25 pounds independently, traverse steep ladders and vertical hatches, work in confined spaces, and stand for long periods is required.
  • A valid Secret Department of Defense security clearance, or the ability to qualify for and maintain one, is required.
  • Proficiency with the full suite of Microsoft Office products and tools is required.
  • The ability to travel to various locations for ship testing, activation, and sea trials is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform end-to-end inspections, grooming, activation, and testing of assigned shipboard systems.
  • Review Industrial Test Procedure Contract Data Requirements Lists to verify technical accuracy against ship specifications and sub-tier references.
  • Validate onboard testing of Main Propulsion and Auxiliary systems for compliance with ship specifications.
  • Monitor mechanical installation of Main Propulsion and Auxiliary systems in an active new-construction shipyard.
  • Conduct routine space surveillance to identify and report technical deficiencies, unusual conditions, and test and grooming progress.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and perform hands-on installations and repairs across hull, mechanical, mission, combat, and weapon systems.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with Government Project teams, Production Teams, and the Shipbuilder.
  • Analyze drawings, technical manuals, and design specifications to understand system requirements during troubleshooting and equipment testing.
  • Partner with engineers, test engineers, and field engineers to resolve complex technical problems on LHA system components.
  • Evaluate equipment performance against test requirements, analyze results, identify necessary modifications, and document findings in formal reports.
  • Provide technical support during Builders, Acceptance, Final Contract, and Special Trials.
  • Travel as required to support project milestones and trials.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in pump and foundation alignments is highly preferred.
  • Practical ability to groom, test, and activate ship systems is highly preferred.
  • Prior service in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Merchant Marines is highly preferred.
