Requirements
  • Trade or vocational school graduation, or completion of a building trades apprenticeship, and two years of directly related work experience.
  • Work experience in safety, building, or facility maintenance.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in planning and conducting life safety rounds of Baptist Health facilities to assess compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
  • Assist with external agency Life Safety surveys at hospital buildings, including surveys by the Agency for Healthcare Administration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, The Joint Commission, fire marshals or inspectors, and the organization's insurance carrier.
  • Research and maintain current knowledge of life safety standards and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Provide assistance to organization departments with life safety concerns or issues.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Environment of Care and Life Safety programs.
  • Perform pre-construction risk assessments as required by project scope.
  • Assist with interim life safety measures for affected projects, including site visits, hazard surveillance review, and communication with affected parties.
  • Participate in contractor education for contracted vendors when required.
  • Coordinate and conduct fire drills and fire safety training after fire drills for Baptist Health team members when assigned.
  • Oversee, assess, manage, and document vendor reports related to Environment of Care and Life Safety, including fire alarm, suppression, detection, and medical gas reports.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities related to Life Safety and Environment of Care, including data analysis and identification and monitoring of indicators.
  • Assist with creating and reviewing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing compliance documentation for regulatory surveys.
  • Work cooperatively with team members and leadership to optimize Environment of Care and Life Safety programs.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Facility Manager.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with organizational policies and applicable standards.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional discipline and adhere to department policies and procedures.
  • Stay informed about evolving safety technology, standards, and regulations, and recommend appropriate improvements.
