  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in molecular genetics laboratory or molecular pathology laboratory (oncology molecular diagnostics experience is preferred)
  • Good theoretical understanding of molecular techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, DNA/RNA sequencing, NGS workflow, library preparation, library assessment, NGS, q-PCR
  • Computer knowledge required
Responsibilities
  • Verifies identification of specimen with physicians’ orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
  • Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal or unusual results.
  • Researches and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
  • Calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.
  • Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action while supporting laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems.
  • Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording.
  • Assists with orienting and training employees on laboratory techniques and operations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Utilizes appropriate equipment and instruments with precision for all molecular diagnostic protocols.
  • Performs molecular techniques, including nucleic acid extraction (DNA and/or RNA) from fixed tissues, blood, or bone marrow, DNA/RNA quantification and quality assessment, fragment analysis, PCR, NGS library preparation, and data analysis.
  • Utilizes laboratory information systems for data entry, recall, and labeling.
  • Accurately follows all laboratory SOPs.
  • QA and QC responsibilities: Run and reports proficiency testing following SOPs.
  • Perform, review, and accept daily QC runs.
  • Follow laboratory protocols for corrections reports, identify, correct, and report deviations of SOPs.
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly documentation of bench decontamination.
  • Refrigerators and freezer temperatures, room humidity, and temperature.
  • Document daily activities and maintenance.
  • Perform system verification, accuracy, precision, and instrument-to-instrument comparison following SOP and supervisor/manager guidance.
  • Inventory and supplies: Maintaining adequate inventory levels as per protocol. Places orders regularly as needed.
  • Rotate previous inventory stock when it applies.
  • Pick up, unpack, date, and storage in a timely manner according to manufacturers’ commendation.
  • Check packing slips, verify amounts and items received, and give documentation to supervisor/designee.
  • Laboratory ancillary activities: Keeps lab clean, neat, and organized. Performs housekeeping duties.
  • Remove empty boxes, recyclable material and dispose of them as per SOP.
  • Prepare Biohazards containers for use and disposal.
  • Assist in the maintenance of hardware by loading paper, labels, and/or printer ribbons or any other task when necessary.
  • Performs all procedures in a timely manner.
  • Knowledgeable of all lab procedures and specimen submission requirements.
  • Understand and use proper safety practices.
  • Complete all CBL required training and compliance courses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Department Specific Qualifications: Certification and Licensing: Florida Molecular License, Certified by ASCP/AMT/ABB (ASCP preferred)
