Requirements
  • A Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • Three or more years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering is required.
  • Promote safe working practices and apply safety-related concepts to process design.
  • Have basic knowledge of chemical or biochemical process engineering and chemical or biochemical process computer programs.
  • Be familiar with the specifications and installation details of equipment, instrumentation, and piping.
  • Create accurate process engineering documents from vendor equipment data and drawings.
  • Have a complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform process engineering and design functions.
  • Have working knowledge of CAD software, including AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Have working knowledge of hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEPHASE, PIPE-FLO, or SiNet.
  • Have working knowledge of process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Plus Dynamics, PRO/II, DYNSIM, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, WinGEMS, or ProMax.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor the performance of steam generation, industrial water treatment, cooling towers, and compressed air systems.
  • Ensure water and air discharge parameters remain within mandated environmental limits.
  • Assist with utility infrastructure upgrades from conceptual design through commissioning.
  • Establish design criteria incorporating client requirements, estimate or scope basis, and design basis in accordance with applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes.
  • Establish and communicate permitting requirements to the project team.
  • Understand project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
  • Advise the Lead Engineer of potential design or scope changes.
  • Delegate work to engineers and designers in proportion to their technical skills and experience, then follow up to support efficient progress and quality.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure interdisciplinary alignment on projects.
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate to the estimate level.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
  • Use department standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Produce detailed design calculations and drawings for projects.
  • Use designers efficiently in the development of drawings.
  • Produce project designs that emphasize constructability, operability, and maintainability while meeting client specifications and expectations.
  • Check calculations, reports, and studies prepared by other engineers for accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and good engineering practices.
  • Produce equipment and construction specifications.
  • Monitor drawings in progress for conformance to design calculations and specifications.
  • Assist designers in resolving routine layout and detailing problems and provide sufficient information for completion of engineering drawings.
  • Review and check vendor information and information from other disciplines requiring process engineering input.
  • Review fabrication drawings and vendor submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Develop engineering and equipment specifications.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather process information, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Participate in professional society meetings to make business contacts and remain current with industry developments.
  • Participate in sales activities, including pre-bid meetings, client presentations, scope review meetings, and proposal development.
  • Travel as required for client presentations, project-related tasks, and training opportunities.
  • Mentor less experienced process engineers.
  • Develop small work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.
