Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Professional Advisor provides academic advising and resourcing services to an assigned cohort of Liberty University resident students. The advisor assists with developing and implementing comprehensive academic plans that align with students’ personal, educational, and vocational objectives. This position is a full-time staff position in the College of Applied Studies & Academic Success (CASAS) and reports to the Assistant Director of Professional Advising.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides academic advising and resources to students through one-on-one appointments, group advising sessions, walk-in office hours, email correspondence, and phone calls. Trains and equips students in using the Course Registration Tool (CRT), the Degree Completion Plan Audit (DCPA), and other academic tools available to support student success. Communicates knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures, and services provided on campus, (i.e., Registrar forms and processes, official complaint options, withdrawal policies, external scholarship opportunities, etc.) Contributes to increased student retention by participating in various proactive and outreach initiatives, such as new student and non-registered contact campaigns. Maintains communication with department liaisons about changes and policies within assigned Schools and departments. Supports cooperative initiatives provided by other University departments (i.e., recruiting events, career fairs, etc.) Performs any other academic advising or student support-related duties deemed necessary by CASAS leadership. Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Level I
Bachelor’s degree required.
1-2 years of professional experience in higher education or related field required.
Level II
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
3-5 years of professional experience in higher education or related field required.
Level III
Master's degree required.
5+ years of professional experience, with a minimum of 2 years as a Professional Advisor at Liberty University required.
Required to help support the team by filling temporary gaps in advising service as needed and must have the ability to mentor, support, and train other advising staff.

Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate. Working environment also includes facilitation of events outdoors occasionally.
Driving Requirements
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
