Morningstar partners with Apollo, Franklin Templeton and JPMorgan on model portfolios

Morningstar Wealth has partnered with Apollo, Franklin Templeton and JPMorgan to launch research-driven model portfolios combining public and private market exposure for financial advisers. The portfolios will include access to private markets through interval funds, using Morningstar's independent research with open-architecture allocations from multiple asset managers. The collaboration comes as Morningstar's shares face pressure, closing at $153.68, down 27% year-to-date and 48.8% over the past year. The stock trades 37.5% below the consensus analyst target of $246. The development could broaden how advisers build client portfolios, particularly where demand for alternative assets is growing. Morningstar trades at 17x earnings as subscriptions grow 8% and margins hit 42%

Morningstar, a financial data and analytics company with four decades of uninterrupted revenue growth, is trading at approximately 17 times forward earnings — below the S&P 500 and less than half its price from 18 months ago. The stock fell from above $310 in 2024 to below $170 in early 2026 amid concerns about AI disruption and venture capital slowdown. Despite the share price decline, Morningstar's operating income grew over 36% in its most recent quarter. The company's subscription-based model generates strong economics, with its Morningstar Direct Platform contributing $215.2 million in Q1 2026 revenue, up 8% year over year, with adjusted operating margins exceeding 42%. The business benefits from high switching costs, as financial professionals build workflows and compliance processes around its platform, making it difficult to replace.
