Qvest, Ateme and Scaleway deliver sovereign OTT platforms for European broadcasters.

Qvest, Ateme and Scaleway deliver sovereign OTT platforms for European broadcasters. 24/07/2026 Qvest, Ateme, and Scaleway have partnered to offer broadcasters, media organizations, and sports rights holders sovereign OTT platforms built on European technology. The joint solution combines Scaleway's cloud infrastructure, Ateme's video technology, and Qvest's consultancy, systems integration, and managed services. As broadcasters across Europe face increasing regulatory requirements and pressure to reduce dependency on non-European cloud providers, the three companies say their partnership offers a ready-to-implement solution. The offering covers the components required to build and operate a sovereign OTT platform, from ingest, encoding, and packaging to content delivery, DRM, analytics, and frontend integration. Broadcasters can use the solution to launch new streaming services, migrate existing environments, or engage Qvest as a managed service partner. Each partner contributes a distinct area of expertise: Scaleway provides European cloud infrastructure; Ateme provides live encoding, packaging, origin, CDN, and server-side ad insertion; and Qvest designs the architecture, integrates third-party components such as DRM, players, and analytics, and can operate the platform as a managed service. The collaboration is aligned with the European Union's Cloud Sovereignty Framework (CSF) and its SEAL sovereignty model, which are used as a reference for scoring sovereignty in public procurement. Qvest designs each platform to meet the specific requirements of individual tenders rather than making absolute sovereignty claims. The growing awareness and demand around digital sovereignty has moved beyond strategy, said Tobias K nkel, Managing Director at Qvest Engage, a subsidiary of Qvest Group. Now, broadcasters need solutions that can be implemented. Together with Ateme and Scaleway, we are bringing production-ready sovereign OTT platforms to broadcasters that combine operational maturity with European sovereignty. Digital sovereignty is becoming a strategic priority for broadcasters across Europe, said R mi Beaudouin, Chief Strategy Officer at Ateme. The combination of Ateme's proven video technology, Scaleway's European cloud infrastructure and Qvest's integration expertise gives media organizations a practical path to modernize their OTT platforms while maintaining greater control over their infrastructure, operations and data. Europe has all the capabilities required to support the next generation of streaming services. The real challenge is bringing them together in a way that broadcasters can adopt with confidence. This OTT platform turns strategic autonomy into a practical choice by combining proven European cloud and streaming technologies within a complete operational environment. It gives media organizations greater control over their infrastructure and long-term technology decisions, said Damien Lucas, CEO of Scaleway. The solution is available for broadcasters looking to launch new streaming services, migrate existing OTT platforms away from non-European providers, or consume the platform as a managed service operated by Qvest. 05/01/2027. HbbTV opens entries for 2026 awards ahead of Barcelona Symposium.

HbbTV opens entries for 2026 awards ahead of Barcelona Symposium. The HbbTV Association has begun accepting entries for the HbbTV Awards 2026, inviting providers of HbbTV applications, services, technologies and solutions to put forward their best work. This year's competition will be staged during the 14th HbbTV Symposium and Awards on 18-19 November 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, co-hosted by the HbbTV Association and 3Cat, Catalonia's public media corporation. The event will take place at the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza Hotel and bring together leaders from across the connected TV ecosystem. The awards ceremony is scheduled for the evening of 18 November, the opening day of the conference. Submissions are free and can be made via the online form at forms.gle/rLrfLJH1P5dgSPwY7, which also provides further information for entrants. Reflecting current market trends, the HbbTV Association has refreshed its categories for 2026, introducing Excellence in HbbTV Audience Measurement & Analytics to acknowledge the growing role of HbbTV-powered audience insights, improved measurement accuracy and advanced analytics. An independent jury of industry experts will evaluate entries against criteria such as innovation, technical merit, execution, impact and overall contribution to the HbbTV ecosystem. The HbbTV Rising Star Award, formerly the "HbbTV Newcomer of the Year" Judges' Award, is now a standard category. Organisations can nominate themselves or third parties, including customers, partners or suppliers. The award recognises companies that are relatively new to HbbTV and have demonstrated exceptional innovation, technical excellence, market impact or a strong commitment to ecosystem growth. The deadline for entries is 18 September 2026. A shortlist of finalists will be selected for review by the expert panel, which will choose the winners. "The HbbTV Awards have become an important platform for recognising innovation and excellence across the connected TV ecosystem. Qvest introduces open-source solution for more efficient scaling in software-defined media architectures.

Qvest introduces open-source solution for more efficient scaling in software-defined media architectures. Two new open-source projects - mxl-k8s and go-mxl - address key challenges of modern broadcast architectures in the context of Dynamic Media Facilities (DMF) and advance their practical implementation in Kubernetes-based environments COLOGNE, Germany - Qvest has introduced two new solutions that the company says will help drive more efficient processing in software defined architectures. The two new open-source projects - mxl-k8s and go-mxl - address key challenges of modern broadcast architectures in the context of Dynamic Media Facilities (DMF) and advance their practical implementation in Kubernetes-based environments. Qvest says its solution addresses one of the key scalability challenges in DMF-based architectures. Multiple applications often access the same stream simultaneously, leading to significant bandwidth inefficiencies, rising costs, and increasing complexity that grows with each additional application. "With uncompressed UHD streams in the range of 10 Gbit/s and more, this is not a marginal issue but a major economic factor," says Daniel Clasen, Practice Lead - Custom Software Solutions at Qvest. "Our approach ensures that streams are processed at most once per node within the cluster. This lays the foundation for more efficient and future-proof media platforms." Qvest addresses this challenge with mxl-k8s, which enables scalable, converged use of MXL across multiple nodes within a cluster. Media flows are shared within a node, regardless of how many applications access them. On a technical level, Qvest extends the DMF architecture with a cluster-wide orchestration layer for MXL: As a software layer, MXL provides a standardized mechanism for exchanging media flows between applications and can be directly integrated into products. The automated orchestration of this exchange across multiple nodes and systems is deliberately outside the scope of the MXL core and has so far been implemented on a project-specific basis - with corresponding effort for vendors and integrators that can be significantly reduced using mxl-k8s. Qvest completes media workflow modernisation for Bahrain TV.

Qvest completes media workflow modernisation for Bahrain TV. As the lead technology partner, Qvest managed the full system integration and deployment of multiple technologies to modernize the media archive. Qvest has completed the deployment of a new media workflow platform for Bahrain TV, delivering a major upgrade to the broadcaster's media archiving and management infrastructure aimed at improving operational efficiency, scalability and collaboration. The modernisation project was carried out during Bahrain TV's ongoing live broadcast operations without disrupting transmission activities. The new platform introduces a collaborative production environment designed to enhance creativity and elevate broadcasting standards, while full Arabic-language support ensures accessibility and ease of use for local teams. Serving as the project's primary technology partner, Qvest handled the complete system integration and installation process for the broadcaster's upgraded media archive infrastructure. The deployment includes integrated Media Asset Management (MAM) capabilities with customisable workflows, updated media capture and transcoding technologies, and enhanced storage systems designed to support faster processing of large media files for the Ministry of Information, which operates Bahrain TV. Engr. Abdulla Ahmed Al Balooshi, Assistant Undersecretary of Technical Affairs Directorate, said: "The new media archive system has significantly improved our teams' productivity and offers a state-of-the-art environment that promotes creativity and collaboration. The cooperation with Qvest and the partners went smoothly. Their expertise and innovative impulses were crucial in realising our vision of enhancing our broadcasting standards through the integration of advanced technological solutions." A major component of the project is the deployment of the Avid MediaCentral platform, which provides a unified web-based interface for media resource access and production workflows. The upgrade also includes a new Spectra Stack Library storage system that replaces the broadcaster's previous archive infrastructure with improved scalability and storage efficiency. The newly installed Telestream Kumulate system, integrated with the Avid MAM platform, enables Bahrain TV's teams to manage media archiving, restoration and partial restoration processes more efficiently. Qvest said the migration plan ensured a smooth transition from legacy systems, including metadata migration and integration with existing broadcast infrastructure, without interrupting operations. The platform also provides full support for Arabic-language metadata fields, improving usability for local staff while meeting regional language requirements. In addition, the system integrates with existing production, news, tape and ingest systems to maintain seamless operational workflows. High-capacity Avid NEXIS storage systems with 240 terabytes of storage per engine have also been installed to provide scalable media storage capabilities. Integration with Adobe Premiere Pro through the MediaCentral Panel further streamlines editing and media handling processes. The upgraded platform is designed to support simultaneous multi-user access and features advanced search tools for faster content retrieval and more efficient handling of large media files, improving collaboration and accelerating decision-making across production teams. Philipp Glänzel, Managing Director, Qvest MENA, added: "Our goal was to create an exceptional working environment that reflects the core values and production standards of Bahrain TV while fostering a positive atmosphere among the staff. We are pleased with the trusted and successful partnership with the Ministry of Information on this special project." According to Qvest, the implementation marks a major technological milestone for Bahrain's Ministry of Information and establishes new regional benchmarks for media asset management and archiving systems.

Qvest + Dalet: modernizing workflows.

Qvest + Dalet: modernizing workflows. Qvest and Dalet have partnered on major global projects to help broadcasters move from on prem systems to cloud-based, flexible, collaborative production environments. Dalet Flex and Dalet Pyramid play a key role in planning, ingesting, and managing stories through their full lifecycle, while Qvest brings deep workflow design expertise and customer centric system integration. Where AI fits in today. Tim emphasizes that AI only becomes powerful once the core infrastructure is in place. With solid MAM, orchestration, and scheduling systems in place, AI can deliver clear value today. And even though many organizations are still early in adoption, some media companies are, for example, already using AI to monetize their archives, activating "long-tail" content that was previously inaccessible or too costly to exploit. Cloud adoption is accelerating. Broadcasters that once insisted on keeping everything on prem are now embracing hybrid and cloud native models. This shift reduces physical infrastructure, shrinking equipment rooms, and lowering power and cooling needs while boosting scalability. Form A partnership focused on innovation and customer success. The ongoing collaboration between Qvest and Dalet and their shared customer focused approach has resulted in a powerful set of solutions, and even more innovation is coming as the industry evolves.
