Position Summary:
Leads the Finance team to create efficient accounting systems and processes to support achievement of the organization’s strategic plan and goals. Oversees and coordinates all accounting functions, creating accurate and timely financial reports. Responsible for the day-to-day activities of the accounting and financial reporting function. Provides leadership and coordinates all financial reporting, planning and budget management functions. Ensures Company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles for both the US and Canada.

Key Accountabilities:
1. Leads the Finance team to deliver timely and efficient accounting systems
- Leads the Finance team to deliver efficient accounting systems to support achievement of company goals
- Sets clear, measurable goals for the team and individuals

2. Directs the accounting function for the company
- Leads the accounting function for the company to ensure accurate and timely reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Directs the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting process across geographies and business units
- Oversees daily operation of the cash receipts, cash disbursements, and payroll processes
- Produces monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for both internal and external stakeholders, with supporting documentation, variance analysis, and reconciliations, such that the accounting records are auditable at any time
3. Plans, controls, and oversees the finance, accounting, and auditing functions
- Designs, documents, and implements an internal control environment that ensures accurate transactional reporting
- Establishes and documents policies and procedures that accelerate the timeliness and accuracy of the monthly accounting close process and protects the company from fraud risk, concentration of duties, and turnover
- Ensures accurate reporting of revenue based on each unique customer contract and in accordance with GAAP
- Oversees the consolidation of multiple entities and elimination of intercompany transactions
- Manages the annual financial statement audit process
- Manages the annual tax compliance work performed internally and by external tax advisors, including matters related to the Canadian SRED credit or similar
4. Creates a governance framework for accounting and finance
- Establishes standards, policies, and internal controls appropriate for the needs and complexity of the organization
- Ensures compliance with local and federal authorities with respect to financial reporting and tax matters.
5. Collaborates effectively with internal and external business partners
- Collaborates with the Product and Operations teams to ensure the needs of the accounting department are met for each new client implementation and new product offering
- Provides periodic written analysis of the operations of the business using accounting information to support ongoing financial analysis of product lines and business units
- Provides support to other operational teams for internal and external reporting of client-related activity
- Supports ongoing financial analysis of product lines and business units
- Performs technical accounting research when necessary
- Other duties as business needs require or as directed by the CFO, COO or CEO
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for the US
- Knowledge of financial forecasting and budgeting
- Excellent reporting and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
- Business acumen – can understand, model, and explain business models and ROI analyses

Required Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- Eight+ years of experience in a similar accounting role.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Quick Books online accounting software, with intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Excel.
- A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. Additional designations such as Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is an asset.
- Previous healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
