Requirements
  • Ability to provide first-level Learning Commons service support for students by assisting with learning materials, resources, and equipment.
  • Ability to respond to general information requests accurately and provide appropriate referrals to other service areas.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external groups within the Dallas College community.
  • Ability to prepare periodic reports as needed or requested.
  • Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and prioritize work.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population.
  • An associate degree, or a high school diploma or equivalent with two years of experience providing library, technology, testing, tutoring, or customer service.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of library and educational technology.
  • Competence using computer-based application software, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with library functions and circulation systems.
  • Experience with PC and Macintosh hardware and software.
  • Experience working within a learning commons environment that supports student success through collaboration with faculty and student learning services.
  • Bilingual ability is required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check; some positions may require a fingerprint check.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and community patrons with circulation of Learning Commons materials, technology equipment, and collection maintenance, including reserves, periodicals, and reference materials.
  • Pull books, process materials, complete checkouts, and search the online catalog.
  • Provide customer service and software support for students, faculty, staff, and community patrons.
  • Monitor patron logons and computer lab workflow.
  • Perform initial technology troubleshooting and reporting for commons, labs, and classrooms.
  • Assist with departmental educational workshops and training for staff, faculty, and students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records for department administration.
  • Enter, update, and delete items in multiple databases.
  • Adapt to the Dallas College learning commons model and philosophy as it develops.
  • Represent the department by participating in internal and external committees and associations.
  • Complete required Dallas College professional development training hours each academic year.
  • Perform related service functions and other assigned duties.
