Stephen Skeels joins FRP as director in financial advisory team.

Stephen Skeels joins FRP as director in financial advisory team. 10 September 2026 Consultancy.uk Financial services sector valuation specialist Stephen Skeels has arrived at the financial advisory team of FRP Advisory. Based in London, he will serve clients as a consultant director. Skeels commented, "FRP Advisory is a growing organisation with a nationwide office network and, while financial services has traditionally been a London-centric sector, there are established and growing regional strengths in places including Leeds and Manchester. So, I'll be getting out and talking to people around the country, as well as in the capital." According to Skeels, the valuation world is going through "a lot of change at the moment", something he is "excited to help FRP track its way through" - and help to "deliver a quality service to clients". In FRP's financial services valuation practice, he will advise clients on transactions and contentious matters where an independent opinion is required. With close to 40 years' experience, Skeels joins FRP from Forvis Mazars where he spent almost two decades, most recently as global head of valuations. Throughout his career, Skeels' work centred on mid-market corporates and public companies, specialising in regulated valuation matters including those arising under the Takeover Code and listing rules as well as acting as an expert witness in contentious matters. This has seen Skeers also advise on privatisations, capital raisings, public takeovers and private company M&A, with significant experience of cross-border mandates. He has particularly focused on the financial services sector. Jim Davies, partner in the FRP financial advisory team, added, "Demand for valuations remains robust, both for live transactions and in contentious situations where a client needs an opinion that will stand up to scrutiny. Stephen has spent his career doing precisely that work at the complex end of the market and he brings with him the regulated experience and the relationships to help us grow the financial services side of the practice... Stephen's appointment reflects our ongoing drive to invest in senior talent to grow our specialist capabilities and serves to and strengthen our position in this important market. I look forward to working alongside Stephen, who adds outstanding skills and knowledge to our growing valuation offering." With more than 850 employees, FRP Advisory is one of the UK's largest independent business advisory firms. Alongside insolvency and restructuring services, the firm also supports clients with corporate finance, forensic services, financial advisory and debt advisory.

Professional services firm Forvis Mazars has welcomed 268 trainees to its UK businesses as part of its 2026 early careers intake, including a record number of school leavers. The new trainees will work across areas including audit, tax, advisory and support services, while undertaking professional qualifications and receiving training in communication, relationship-building and technical skills. The programmes will also provide opportunities to develop skills in data, technology and artificial intelligence, which are expected to have an impact on the profession according to a survey by the Institute of Student Employers, which found 87% expect entry-level roles will change because of AI and only 40% expect no job replacement at all. The firm said its early careers programmes are designed to provide trainees with client exposure from the beginning of their careers, alongside mentoring and structured professional development from experienced colleagues. Forvis Mazars said its investment in training was already producing positive results, with September 2025 graduate trainees achieving examination results above ICAEW averages. School-leaver trainees have also completed the first year of a programme developed in partnership with BPP. Margaret Laidlaw, head of people and culture, said: "We're delighted to welcome our newest trainees to Forvis Mazars and support them as they begin their professional careers. As client needs and the profession continue to evolve, the skills required for success are evolving too. Alongside technical expertise, strong relationships, collaboration and judgement remain critical. Our programmes are designed to help trainees develop the full range of skills they need to build successful careers, including areas such as data and AI." James Gilbey, chief executive officer, added: "At the same time as embracing technology, we are standing firm in our belief that trust remains our most valuable asset and it is built through people. I'm so pleased to welcome this year's intake. They will be in front of clients, learning from experienced professionals and building their future and ours from day one." Stephen Isherwood, chief executive officer, Institute of Student Employers told Accountancy Today: "School leaver programmes have been growing for a number of years as accountancy and professional services firms have diversified their talent pipelines. The introduction of the apprentice levy was a significant factor. Some larger employers are increasing their emphasis on school and college leaver recruitment relative to graduates. "Employers in our survey who recruited students onto both pathways, hired 1.8 graduates for every school/college leaver in 2025, down from 2.3 in 2024. (We are currently collating our 2026 data which will be published in October.)" Published: 4m ago
