Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree and one year of experience are required, although relevant experience may substitute for the degree when the required experience threshold is met.
  • Provide academic advising and counseling concerning admissions, course requirements, graduation requirements, scholastic requirements, and academic issues.
  • Provide general career counseling, including discussion of students' values, philosophy, life goals, career information, and testing.
  • Interpret placement, occupational, vocational, and interest tests.
  • A satisfactory pre-employment background check is required.
  • Candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
  • May be required to work nights and/or weekends.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individual academic counseling for students in the Ogden Honors College and advise on the undergraduate curriculum appropriate to an Honors collegiate education.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, information sessions, and other events in coordination with student services personnel and student support organizations.
  • Plan and participate in registration, pre-registration, orientation, and other special programs.
  • Coordinate orientation and certification of degree candidates for the college.
  • Produce digital and print resources supporting the academic and developmental needs of Ogden Honors College students.
  • Represent the college or department at university functions, high schools, community events, college or university committees, joint programs, and professional meetings and activities.
  • Utilize and maintain identification and tracking resources supporting student development.
  • Maintain individual student advising records.
  • Assist with recruiting efforts.
  • Collaborate with campus constituents to resolve student issues and concerns.
  • Refer students who appear to need emotional, behavioral, or mental-health-related assistance to the appropriate Student Health Center service, and promptly contact the Care Team, Dean of Students, or appropriate law enforcement agency when a student appears to pose a danger to themselves or others.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • A Master's degree, preferably in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences, is preferred.
  • Two years of full-time experience in a collegiate student support position are preferred.
