Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.
  • Hold current Licensed Practical Nurse licensure in the State of Louisiana.
  • Hold current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Be IV certified and willing to perform related tasks.
  • Have basic computer knowledge.
  • Use appropriate discretion when handling confidential material and information.
  • Interact professionally with patients, families, physicians, vendors, and coworkers while meeting customer-service standards.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care addressing patients’ psychosocial, physical, and general care needs.
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments and reassessments for pediatric, geriatric, and general patient populations.
  • Assess and reassess pain, apply appropriate pain-management techniques, and educate patients and families about pain management.
  • Provide age-appropriate patient care and consider the specific needs of each patient’s age group.
  • Administer medications correctly according to patient age and clinical condition while following the five medication rights.
  • Revise and evaluate plans of care based on patient responses to treatment.
  • Develop and evaluate teaching plans based on identified patient and family learning needs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills within the level of licensure.
  • Perform treatments and services within the Licensed Practical Nurse scope of practice.
  • Address patients’ psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious or spiritual needs with respect and dignity.
  • Involve patients and families in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Apply growth-and-development principles to identify age-specific patient needs and provide appropriate care.
  • Perform patient care in a manner that optimizes safety and reduces medical or healthcare errors.
  • Use medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care under direct supervision.
  • Consult other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately with team leaders, coworkers, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and physically distressful situations.
  • Maintain working relationships within the department and with other departments.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Perform other duties assigned within the Licensed Practical Nurse scope of practice.
