Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Trained Police Officers must have attended the bridge or full-time academy authorized by the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee.
  • All candidates must obtain certification as a law-enforcement Police Officer by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission.
  • All candidates must obtain their warrant of appointment as a Special State Police Officer.
  • Applicants must be age twenty-one or older at the time of application.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Candidates must possess and maintain a Massachusetts Class A Large Capacity License to Carry Firearms.
  • All Police Officers must meet and maintain POST-certified credentials.
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior De-Escalation Training, OC Pepper education and training, Handcuffing education and training, and Baton education and training are required within 120 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and First Responder certification are required within 120 days of hire.
  • Candidates must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19, or obtain an approved medical or personal exemption by signing the required statement.
Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas of property used, owned, and occupied by Southcoast Health.
  • Support weapons screening operations.
  • Conduct foot, bicycle, and vehicle patrols of Southcoast properties.
  • Perform traffic duties.
  • Conduct investigations and criminal investigations.
  • Promote crime prevention.
  • Assist with community service and provide community policing functions to the Southcoast community.
  • Respond to service requests, emergencies, and other assigned duties.
  • Make lawful arrests and seek criminal process in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws.
  • Provide court testimony when necessary.
  • Work at other Southcoast hospitals and offsite locations as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice or another course of study is preferred.
  • Three years of prior law enforcement experience is preferred.
