Requirements
  • BS in electrical, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, computer or process/controls engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program that includes course work in analog and digital control systems
  • 18 years (minimum) of experience with at least 8 of those years with nuclear power, preferably with digital/analog controls systems
  • Experience with operating plant procedures, processes and nuclear plant licensing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Effective time management skills; ability to work on several projects concurrently
  • Ability to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access
  • Overtime work is required at times
  • Travel to client sites with occasional periods of field/office work
  • Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas
Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of engineering and design activities involving power plant upgrades and/or new power plant projects
  • Demonstrate extensive experience with power plant system instrumentation and control strategies and possess technical knowledge of legacy equipment and a thorough understanding of digital control systems design based on the latest digital platforms
  • Plan, organize, and prepare modifications; independently evaluate, select, and use standards, techniques, procedures and criteria for technical projects
  • Be familiar with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry as well as NRC regulations
  • Develop specifications and/or modification packages
  • Define instrumentation and control design scope
  • Develop design criteria documents
  • Identify and select control valves and instruments
  • Develop control system functionality
  • Develop control system architectures
  • Define input/output device interfaces
  • Manage budget, scope, schedule and quality for designated work assignments with minimal guidance
  • Devise new approaches to technical problems with broad knowledge of industry precedents
  • Interface and coordinate with multiple design disciplines and customer representatives
  • Work on project teams with other engineers to evaluate conditions and proposed modifications to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability
  • Manage project teams and provide mentoring oversight to entry level and junior engineers
  • Review and check designs, drawings and data prepared by other engineers
Desired Qualifications
  • MS in electrical, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, computer or process/controls engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • Professional Engineering registration (PE) is desirable
  • Experience in the nuclear power industry and actual field experience on nuclear plant projects

Zachry Group awarded Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for NiSource's Combined Cycle Generation Project. SAN ANTONIO-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Zachry Group (Zachry) has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for NiSource Inc.'s Combined Cycle Generation Project, a major infrastructure project located near Wheatfield, Indiana. The facility will support NiSource's delivery of electricity to a third-party customer and includes two nominal 1,300-megawatt gas-fired combined cycle units in a 2 x 2 x 1 configuration. A subsidiary of NiSource Inc. will own and operate the facility. The EPC contract will be executed by a joint venture between Zachry Group and Quanta Services, Inc. (Quanta). Zachry will lead engineering, procurement, project management, construction planning, and commissioning, drawing on its five decades of experience designing and building over 100 gas-fired facilities totaling more than 60,000 megawatts. Quanta will contribute field-level leadership and craft workforce management through its operating companies. This collaborative approach is designed to enhance execution certainty, optimize labor resources, and deliver cost-effective, high-quality infrastructure.
