Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent foreign education
  • 6 months of experience
  • Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist MLS ASCP certification
  • Knowledge of working in a clinical laboratory setting (hospital, clinic, or reference lab)
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information systems, databases and spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of Hospital Electronic Medical Record Systems
  • Knowledge of working with laboratory equipment including hematology, chemistry, immunochemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, toxicology testing systems, and semen analysis
  • Knowledge of performing routine testing, quality control, calibration and troubleshooting of laboratory analyzers
  • Knowledge of specimen processing and handling, including blood, semen, urine, stool, and all other body fluids
  • Knowledge of body fluid cell counts and manual differentials as well as peripheral blood manual differentials
  • Knowledge of hematology studies, body fluid analysis, clinical chemistries, coagulation studies, and urinalysis
  • Knowledge of blood and body cell morphology, including the ability to recognize cells that may be indicative of a pathological disease
  • Knowledge of rapid microbiology testing, PCR testing and analyzers
  • Knowledge of performing validation testing and reports, evaluate quality control and set up of new laboratory instrumentation and methods.
Responsibilities
  • Analyzing laboratory findings to check the accuracy of results
  • Operating, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory analyzers used in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Receiving and studying blood samples to determine the number of cells, their morphology, or their blood group, blood type, or compatibility for transfusion purposes, using analyzers and microscopic techniques
  • Managing blood product inventory and dispensing of blood products for transfusion
  • Performing and reporting on molecular tests for infectious diseases
  • Performing microscopic evaluation of body fluids, including identification of cells, bacteria, yeast and crystals
  • Responding to traumas and providing emergency testing services
  • Entering data from analysis of medical tests or clinical results into medical records
  • Performing and monitoring quality control on testing to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results
  • Analyzing samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction
  • Setting up, cleaning, and maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Providing technical advice and training to lab assistants, medical and clinical laboratory technicians or technologists, or other medical laboratory workers engaged in laboratory testing
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills using email, telephone and in person.
