Requirements
  • Deep mastery of Android Open Source Project internals, Launcher3, SystemUI, Binder/AIDL inter-process communication, WindowManager, and ActivityTaskManager.
  • Expert proficiency in Kotlin, including Coroutines and Flow, and proficiency with Jetpack Compose, ViewModel, Hilt dependency injection, Navigation, Room, and DataStore.
  • Expertise in Android TV and set-top-box platforms, including the Leanback Library, TV Compose, D-pad and focus engines, Google TV user-experience guidelines, HDMI-CEC, and 4K rendering.
  • Experience with Android performance engineering tools and concepts, including Perfetto, Systrace, Android Profiler, janky frames, time to initial display, memory analysis, and garbage-collection tuning.
  • Experience integrating artificial intelligence and machine-learning technologies, including TensorFlow Lite, ML Kit, on-device inference, recommendation pipelines, and semantic-search embeddings.
  • Experience with Clean Architecture, MVI/MVVM, modular Gradle, software development kit design, API versioning, and backward-compatibility strategies.
  • Experience with JUnit 5, Espresso, Robolectric, Compose UI testing, screenshot testing, and continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Proficiency in Java, working knowledge of C/C++ for NDK/HAL, and scripting experience with Python.
  • Seven to ten years of total Android engineering experience.
  • At least five years of hands-on AOSP development involving Launcher or SystemUI.
  • At least four years of dedicated Android TV, connected-TV, or set-top-box product delivery experience.
  • At least three years of production Jetpack Compose experience across phone and TV surfaces.
  • At least three years leading architect- or principal-level squads.
  • Experience with firmware lifecycle management, phase-based rollouts, and A/B over-the-air updates.
  • Demonstrable ownership of Launcher startup and frame-rendering performance budgets.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and evolution of the system Launcher on Android-based phones, tablets, and connected-TV or set-top-box devices.
  • Serve as a technical authority across product, engineering, and platform teams.
  • Define Launcher software development kit contracts and drive architecture reviews.
  • Architect TV Launcher experiences according to Google TV and Android TV user-experience guidelines, D-pad navigation, leanback patterns, and Leanback or TV Compose APIs.
  • Own focus management, spatial navigation, and D-pad input routing across the Launcher surface.
  • Design original-equipment-manufacturer overlay and customization frameworks for 4K and 2K set-top-box stock-keeping units.
  • Collaborate with content-management-system and firmware teams on firmware-over-the-air-linked Launcher variant rollout strategies.
  • Define and own Launcher performance budgets for cold start, frame rendering, time to initial display, and memory headroom.
  • Drive crash and application-not-responding telemetry analysis using Perfetto, application-not-responding traces, tombstone parsing, and SQLiteException correlation.
  • Implement automated continuous-integration regression gates for Launcher performance and stability.
  • Architect health dashboards integrating device telemetry, firmware-version correlations, and user-visible error rates.
  • Lead technical design for artificial-intelligence-assisted Launcher features such as semantic app search, contextual recommendations, and proactive surfacing.
  • Integrate on-device machine-learning models using TensorFlow Lite and MediaPipe for usage prediction and personalization.
  • Design integration points for agentic artificial-intelligence orchestration layers within the Launcher.
  • Lead and mentor a team of five to ten Android engineers across Launcher feature squads.
  • Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and design critique sessions.
  • Define engineering excellence standards for the testing pyramid, continuous integration and delivery pipelines, and documentation.
  • Partner with Product, CMS Operations, Quality Assurance, and Firmware teams to drive end-to-end delivery.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience at original-equipment manufacturers or telecommunications device platforms.
  • Contributions to AOSP upstream, including Gerrit patches, Launcher3 bug fixes, or CTS/VTS test additions.
  • Experience with Google TV certification and Google Mobile Services compliance processes.
  • Familiarity with content-delivery platforms, CMS-driven UI personalization, and A/B feature experimentation on Android.
  • Exposure to agentic artificial-intelligence platforms or large-language-model feature integration on Android surfaces.
  • Published technical talks, blog posts, or open-source projects related to Android platform or Launcher engineering.
  • Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, or Master of Technology in Computer Science or Electronics Engineering; an advanced degree is a plus.

Hillhouse invests in Quest Global to accelerate engineering growth

Quest Global, a global outsourced engineering services provider, has secured a minority investment from Hillhouse Investment through a combination of primary capital infusion and share purchases from existing stakeholders. The transaction involves funds managed by Hillhouse Investment Management. The Singapore-based company, which employs over 21,500 people across 93 global delivery centres in 18 countries, will use the capital to advance strategic priorities and enhance its engineering capabilities for major original equipment manufacturers worldwide. Quest Global specialises in aerospace, automotive, energy and semiconductor sectors. CEO Ajit Prabhu said the investment validates the company's differentiated value proposition and growth strategy. AROBS acquires Quest Global Romania in all-stock deal with one-year lock-up

Romanian tech group AROBS is acquiring Quest Global Romania from Craiova in an all-stock transaction, marking the company's first acquisition paid entirely through share issuance. The newly issued shares will be subject to a one-year lock-up period. Quest Global Romania, headquartered in Craiova, employs approximately 110 specialists and provides software development, testing, embedded solutions and IT consulting services across sectors including semiconductors, healthcare and automotive. The company is part of Singapore-based Quest Global, which operates in 18 countries with over 22,000 employees. The acquisition strengthens AROBS's engineering capabilities and international presence. Quest Global Romania's management will continue under Ana-Maria Vasilescu's leadership. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of the year.
