Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • An associate degree in an electrical or mechanical related field is preferred.
  • Current Generac Power Systems certification is preferred.
  • Experience as a United States Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, United States Navy Electrician’s Mate, or generator and/or uninterruptible power supply field service technician is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to provide verbal and written reports of job status, repair recommendations, and equipment or supplies needed.
  • Must be able to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
  • Must have an excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have good computer skills and be comfortable using Microsoft software, including Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF.
  • Must demonstrate problem-solving ability during emergency situations or situations with limited resources.
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation physical examination.
  • Must complete a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work near moving mechanical parts, in various weather conditions, and in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Must be able to use ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps, hand tools, machinery controls, and computers as required by the work.
  • Training will be provided, and attendance at training courses may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5 to 5000 kilowatts.
  • Troubleshoot and repair automatic transfer switches, including bypass isolation and closed transition types.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services, including oil and filter changes.
  • Troubleshoot alternating-current and direct-current circuits.
  • Remove and replace components as necessary.
  • Perform warranty work according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform start-up and commissioning on new generators and generator systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel or gaseous engines, including ignition components, injection systems, and valve adjustments.
  • Perform load-bank testing on generators to verify proper operating condition and compliance with applicable code requirements.
  • Assist other technicians with large multi-person jobs and complicated troubleshooting issues.
  • Work from home while maintaining the assigned vehicle, parts inventory, company property, cell phone, laptop computer, specialty tools, and other assigned items.
  • Manage difficult or emotional customer situations, respond promptly to customer needs, solicit customer feedback, respond to service requests, and meet commitments.
  • Monitor work for accuracy, quality, and safety and apply feedback to improve performance.
  • Travel to job sites, including long-distance travel and potential overnight hotel stays.
