  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program accredited by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants is required.
  • One year of clinical experience is required.
  • Texas Physician Assistant state licensure is required.
  • Physician Assistant-Certified certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • A Drug Enforcement Administration narcotics license must be obtained within six months.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is required.
  • Critical thinking, clinical judgment, organizational, problem-solving, time-management, and autonomous-practice abilities are required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventive care under the supervision of a physician.
  • Examine and diagnose patients and determine treatment, including analyzing and interpreting x-rays and laboratory results.
  • Write prescriptions, obtain patient histories, provide surgical assistance, and order therapies.
  • Participate in inpatient and outpatient care and perform independently under a physician's license or as part of a treatment team.
  • Participate in patient and interdisciplinary rounds and serve as a clinical resource, interprofessional consultant, and patient advocate.
  • Manage and coordinate patient care with interprofessional healthcare team members and address clinical and ethical concerns.
  • Respond to patient questions and issues and assist with emergencies as needed.
  • Perform diagnosis, prescribe medications, and provide treatment according to practice guidelines, protocols, and standing orders.
  • Review medications and test reports, respond to critical test results, and advise on corrective actions.
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments, develop plans of care, initiate interventions, evaluate outcomes, and perform diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic procedures.
  • Contribute to protocols, professional practice standards, policies, and patient-safety improvements.
  • Document diagnoses and CPT coding accurately and timely in medical records.
  • Support department financial targets through timely documentation, reducing length of stay, and improving efficiency.
  • Lead or participate in quality-improvement projects, hospital activities, and committees.
  • Provide education through research, presentations, and publications and precept Physician Assistant students and medical residents when appropriate.
