  • A master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, or another related field is required.
  • Seven years of relevant higher education-related experience are required.
  • Experience managing student crisis situations is required.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout employment.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact in the Dean of Students Office for non-conduct-related student issues and matters, including ombuds services and medical withdrawals.
  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and administration of policies, procedures, and protocols affecting student success under the Dean of Students Office.
  • Supervise professional staff and graduate students in the Dean of Students Office.
  • Serve as a Title IX Deputy for issues involving sexual misconduct and harassment.
  • Coordinate the medical withdrawal process.
  • Ensure accurate records management and follow-up for student complaints received by the Associate Dean.
  • Serve as an ombudsman and advocate for students navigating campus policies or difficult situations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with faculty and staff regarding students of concern.
  • Document important contacts and conversations in appropriate data management systems.
  • Serve as chairperson of the cross-functional CARE Team and ensure compliance with its protocols.
  • Oversee case management for engaging students of concern, reinforcing behavioral expectations, and supporting follow-through on CARE Team interventions.
  • Provide and promote training and ongoing education for CARE Team members.
  • Maintain accurate CARE records and provide statistics and reports to appropriate entities.
  • Train members of the UW-Whitewater community on the role and function of the CARE Team.
  • Collaborate with student affairs units, academic colleges, departments, and other units to bridge university agendas and priorities.
  • Serve on university and professional committees advancing initiatives for students and staff with disabilities.
  • Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and approving hours worked for at least 2.0 full-time equivalent employees.
  • Advise institutional and divisional leadership on policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups, representing the division in the Dean’s absence.
  • Evaluate unit program and service effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert to unit leadership regarding student issues and resolutions.
  • Assist in developing Student Services strategic planning initiatives and objectives concerning financial, administrative, and staffing resources.
  • Assist in developing operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and division objectives.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with behavior intervention and threat assessment processes and protocols.
  • Experience supervising professional staff members.
  • Competence in providing training programs for staff and students, particularly regarding student behavior, classroom management, and crisis response.
  • Experience with policy development and implementation.
  • Communication and public relations skills, including the ability to engage effectively with faculty, students, families, and their representatives.
  • Intercultural competence and understanding of its impact on the student experience.
  • Knowledge and use of software programs that manage student contact and intervention processes.
