The Sengupta lab (www.senguptalab.org) in the Department of Biology at Brandeis University is looking for a responsible and organized individual to join the lab as a Research Technician. The lab is a member of both the Molecular Cell Biology and Neuroscience Programs at Brandeis, and uses a range of experimental techniques in the C. elegans experimental system.
The Research Technician will spend 40-50% of their time managing the lab. This involves managing our C. elegans strain collection, handling orders and supplies, overseeing equipment repairs, and other general lab organization duties. The person will spend the remainder of their time performing experiments under the supervision of a another lab member, and assisting other lab members as needed with their projects.
Primary Responsibilities -
Manages lab strain collection: 15% time
Orders supplies: 10% time
Oversees equipment repairs: 10% time
Other general lab management duties: 10% time
Performs supervised experiments: 40% time
Assists lab members with experiments: 15% time
Requirements:
AS/equivalent required, Bachelors degree strongly preferred
1-3 years of experience preferably in independent laboratory work experience using molecular biology
Requires experience in a biology or neuroscience laboratory setting. Preferably has performed an independent research project using molecular biology techniques.
Must be able to use microscopes for extended periods of time; must be able to lift and move heavy boxes containing supplies; must be able to walk among lab rooms and offices in different buildings. Laboratory setting includes mutagens, chemicals and recombinant DNA with appropriate safety procedures in place.
Needs to communicate and interact frequently and extensively with lab members, Brandeis administrative staff and outside sales associates
Needs to be able to multitask - perform experiments and perform lab managerial duties.
