Crossroads Treatment Center of Greensboro has reached a voluntary civil settlement with the North Carolina Attorney General's Office regarding CPT codes used at a now-closed laboratory. The settlement resolves the agency's review of definitive urinary drug testing codes at Crossroads' former Greensboro clinical laboratory, which ceased operations in 2024. The settlement includes no admission of wrongdoing, and there are no allegations concerning patient care quality. Crossroads, which was founded over 20 years ago and serves more than 30,000 patients across nine states, refuted all accusations throughout the review process. The company will continue providing opioid use disorder treatment to over 1,000 patients in North Carolina and has recently launched a mobile treatment unit in western North Carolina to expand access in areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

Crossroads Treatment Center of Greensboro reaches voluntary civil settlement with North Carolina Attorney General. PR Newswire Yesterday at 10:37am PDT GREENSBORO, N.C., May 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Crossroads Treatment Center of Greensboro, P.C., reached a civil settlement agreement with the North Carolina Attorney General's Office regarding the agency's review of certain codes used in a now-closed laboratory. The settlement closes the agency's review of CPT codes used for definitive urinary drug testing at Crossroads' former clinical laboratory in Greensboro, North Carolina. The settlement includes no admission of wrongdoing and there are no allegations related to the quality of the patient care provided by Crossroads. The Greensboro clinical laboratory has not been operational since 2024 and was voluntarily closed unrelated to the agency's coding review. Crossroads was fully cooperative with the state's review of the lab's prior use of CPT code G0483 for definitive urine drug testing. Throughout the entirety of the state's review, Crossroads refuted all accusations and defended its billing and coding practices. Crossroads was founded more than 20 years ago and provides care to over 30,000 patients across 9 states. "Our Board has determined that Crossroads' continued defense in this matter is diverting too many resources from our top priority: saving lives amid this country's rapidly expanding opioid crisis. Our voluntary settlement with the state of North Carolia is by no means an admission of any wrongdoing and was limited in scope to one location's utilization of CPT code G0483 for definitive drug screens. We continue to stand behind our billing and coding practices and will continue to serve our communities in North Carolina to help reduce the state's OUD death rates." -Crossroads, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Meggan Bushee. Crossroads will continue to provide opioid use disorder treatment services to more than 1,000 patients statewide in North Carolina. That commitment is reflected in Crossroads' recent expansion efforts in western North Carolina. As reported by WRAL, the organization has launched a new mobile treatment unit to expand access to care for underserved patients in areas still reeling from Hurricane Helene. Crossroads remains committed to operating with integrity, transparency, and the highest levels of clinical and operational compliance while continuing to expand access to life-saving treatment. Attorney General Jeff Jackson announces $584,000 Medicaid fraud settlement with Greensboro treatment center.

Attorney General Jeff Jackson announces $584,000 Medicaid fraud settlement with Greensboro treatment center. May 5, 2026 Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced on May 5 that his office has secured a $584,000 settlement to resolve allegations of Medicaid fraud involving Crossroads, a treatment center for substance use disorders in Greensboro. The case highlights ongoing efforts to protect taxpayer dollars and maintain the integrity of the Medicaid program. The investigation was prompted when Trillium Health Resources, a managed care organization, identified irregular billing patterns and referred the matter to state authorities. "This is the best-case scenario for addressing fraud and waste in the Medicaid program," said Attorney General Jeff Jackson. "A managed care organization flagged something that was out of pattern, we worked with our federal partners and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District to investigate, and the facility cooperated with us to resolve the issues and repay the Medicaid program. We're going to protect every single dollar taxpayer dollar to ensure it goes to taxpayer healthcare." First Assistant United States Attorney Mike DeFranco said: "False claims undermine the integrity of the Medicaid program and waste valuable taxpayer dollars. It is the mission of this to identify and hold accountable providers that seek to enrich themselves and defraud taxpayers by submitting such claims. Together with our partners at the North Carolina Attorney General's Office, we will continue to identify fraud and pursue justice on behalf of Medicaid." The allegations centered on Crossroads submitting claims between 2019 and 2023 for urinary drug testing without allowing physicians an option for lower-level tests, resulting in more complex - and more expensive - testing than necessary. Crossroads voluntarily closed its clinical laboratory in 2024. The North Carolina State Executive Attorney General acts as a state government entity authorized to handle legal matters on behalf of North Carolina; it provides services including legal representation, criminal prosecution support, consumer protection across all counties in North Carolina; it aims to prevent crime while assisting law enforcement agencies according to its official website. Jeff Jackson currently heads this office as attorney general. The federal and state False Claims Acts allow governments involved in these cases to recover triple damages plus civil penalties per false claim submitted. Authorities emphasized that these are civil allegations only; there has been no judicial determination or admission of liability by Crossroads. This case was investigated jointly by several agencies including NCDOJ's Medicaid Investigations Division (MID), which recovers funds lost due to provider fraud or patient abuse within facilities funded by Medicaid programs. Since its inception MID has recovered over $1.2 billion for North Carolina through restitution or penalties - with more than $41 million since 2012 allocated directly toward public schools.

Church hosts mobile addiction treatment unit in rural Western North Carolina

Crossroads Treatment Centers has launched a mobile addiction treatment unit in rural Western North Carolina after partnering with Newdale Church, following nine months of searching for a community host. The initiative, supported by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and Vaya Health, brings medication-assisted treatment, counselling and recovery support to underserved communities. The mobile unit will serve patients up to 40 miles from Crossroads' Weaverville location, addressing barriers including transportation, access and stigma in treating opioid use disorder. The programme aims to reduce stigma and improve long-term recovery outcomes, with services particularly crucial following Hurricane Helene's impact on the region. Crossroads operates 113 centres across nine US states and reports a six-month retention rate 2.5 times higher than the national average. The mobile unit will begin serving patients this spring.
