Requirements
  • Must be at least fifteen years of age.
  • One year of customer service or public interaction experience is required.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must possess or obtain before beginning work American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid certification, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer certification, and Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
  • Must understand the principles and practices of excellent customer service.
  • Must be skilled in interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
  • Must be skilled in responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
  • Must communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely.
  • Must safely pull, push, lift, and carry items weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and irregular hours, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • May be required to work immediately before, during, or after an emergency or disaster.
  • This position is designated safety and/or security sensitive.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in ensuring the delivery of high-quality and consistent aquatic programs and services to the community.
  • Prepare and assist in maintaining DAS REC and New Braunfels Recreation Center facilities in a safe condition and in alignment with City objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws.
  • Assist in promoting departmental programs and coordinating and setting up city-wide special events.
  • Open and close the aquatic area at appropriate times.
  • Conduct and record water tests and enforce all pool rules.
  • Prevent injuries and minimize hazardous situations.
  • Provide safety surveillance at all times or when on stand.
  • Handle injuries, accidents, and emergency situations as they arise, contacting the Pool Manager for assistance when needed.
  • Instruct various ages in swimming, water safety, and other aquatic programming.
  • Complete assigned cleaning duties.
  • Attend scheduled in-service training.
  • Maintain life safety and rescue skills at rescue-ready levels throughout employment.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Aquatic facility experience.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
