Requirements
  • Five to ten or more years of experience in underground civil construction.
  • Proven experience as a Foreman or Lead Hand on underground crews.
  • Strong knowledge of water, storm, and sanitary installation.
  • Strong knowledge of deep utilities and trenching practices.
  • Strong knowledge of bedding, backfill, and compaction requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and grades.
  • Experience working with laser and/or global positioning system grade systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with municipal and commercial development projects.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is required; a Class 3 license is considered an asset.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and solve problems in the field.
  • High accountability and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise underground utility crews in day-to-day operations.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to meet production targets.
  • Install water, sanitary, and storm systems to line and grade.
  • Read and interpret drawings, grades, and specifications.
  • Work closely with Superintendents and Project Managers on scheduling and execution.
  • Ensure proper trenching, shoring, and safe excavation practices.
  • Oversee bedding, pipe installation, backfill, and compaction activities.
  • Monitor productivity and adjust crew activities to maintain efficiency.
  • Complete daily reports, track quantities, and document site progress.
  • Identify and resolve site issues proactively.
  • Enforce and promote a strong safety culture on all job sites.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, consultants, and other trades as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Class 3 driver's license is considered an asset.
