- Code database descriptions and specify identifiers of data base to data base management system or direct others in coding data base descriptions
- Specify user access levels and permissions for data items and databases
- Test and correct errors, refine changes to database
- Enter code to create production database
- Monitor database performance using utility programs to track distributions of records and memory
- Direct programmers and analysts to make changes to database management system
- Review and correct programs
- Answer user questions
- Confer with coworkers to determine impact of database changes on other systems and staff cost
- Modify database programs to improve processing performance (performance tuning)
- May train users
