Requirements
- A valid Minnesota driver's license is required.
- Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and spreadsheets, are required.
- Membership in bargaining unit Local 70 is required.
- Engineer III requires a two-year technical degree in mechanical maintenance.
- Engineer III requires at least five years of mechanical maintenance experience.
- Engineer III requires a Minnesota First Class C boiler license.
- Engineer III requires an EPA Universal Refrigeration Certificate.
- Engineer III requires Certified Pool Operator certification or the ability to obtain it within six months.
- Engineer II requires a high school graduation credential or equivalent.
- Engineer II requires at least two years of mechanical maintenance experience.
- Engineer II requires a Minnesota Second Class C boiler license or the ability to obtain it within six months.
- Engineer II requires an EPA Universal Refrigeration Certificate or the ability to obtain it within twelve months.
- Engineer II requires Certified Pool Operator certification or the ability to obtain it within three months.
- Employment is contingent on successfully completing a background check.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs of mechanical equipment and systems throughout the university's properties.
- Operate, maintain, repair, and conduct water treatment testing for steam boilers, hydronic boilers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and closed-loop systems.
- Operate, maintain, and repair air handler units, exhaust fans, air conditioning units, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, refrigeration units, and commercial and residential equipment.
- Operate, maintain, and repair pumping systems associated with heating, cooling, and plumbing systems.
- Operate, maintain, and repair swimming pools, whirlpool spas, their water treatment systems, and associated pumping systems.
- Repair and maintain plumbing components, including drains, sinks, faucets, showers, toilets, flush valves, floor drains, water heaters, water softeners, and auxiliary plumbing systems.
- Repair commercial and residential appliances, including refrigerators, stoves, ovens, ranges, dishwashers, clothes washers, and clothes dryers.
- Maintain and repair residential-style forced-air furnaces, hydronic boilers, air conditioners, and auxiliary systems.
- Operate, maintain, and repair pneumatic air compressors, vacuum systems, air dryers, and auxiliary systems.
- Operate, maintain, and repair pneumatic control systems related to temperature control of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Operate the computerized Energy Management System for temperature control of mechanical equipment and systems.
- For Engineer II, perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on air handlers, exhaust fans, air conditioning units, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, refrigeration units, pumping systems, furnaces, hydronic boilers, air conditioners, and auxiliary systems.
- For Engineer II, perform preventive maintenance of swimming pools, whirlpool spas, water treatment systems, and associated pumping systems.
- For Engineer II, perform plumbing repairs and maintenance on drains, sinks, faucets, showers, toilets, flush valves, and floor drains.
- Participate in rotating on-call coverage, with occasional weekends and holidays for Engineer III and increasing on-call participation for Engineer II.
