Position Summary
The Summer Internship Program within Translational Sciences & Diagnostics, Lab Planning and Execution offers students the opportunity to gain experience in our laboratory environments while working with multi-discipline teams on multi-discipline projects. The Summer intern will perform a wide range of tasks from simple to complex, learn and apply a combination of instrumental processes and workflows which allow better efficiency and quality oversight of laboratory tasks.
The Summer intern will learn of the essentials of laboratory compliance standards (i.e., GLP, GCP, ISO 13485, CLIA and CAP requirements). The Summer intern will experience audit preparation and planning, while also learning the basics of different laboratory workflows and biomarker assays using various lab equipment. The Summer Intern will also have the opportunity to apply their academic background and skills to improve various processes and workflows.
By the end of the internship, the student will acquire knowledge of basic laboratory operations, planning, and compliance, that can be applied to the development and quality oversight of any scientific laboratory. .
Key Responsibilities
- Work with Translational Sciences laboratory staff and the Lab Planning and Execution team to manage CLIA/CAP laboratory operations to meet local and global compliance quality standards.
- Support the maintenance of laboratory equipment to meet quality standards; assisting with the organization and coordination of vendors and service personnel.
- Support the maintenance of inventories and supplies to meet the needs of the lab; managing existing inventories, disposing of expired product, planning future needs, ordering, receiving, and restocking of supplies.
- Assists with lab space planning and coordination of facilities work orders for any required lab setup, moves, and maintenance.
- Support the planning and preparation of laboratory audits and inspections.
- Proactively drive safety and GxP compliance, ensure quality support resolutions and maintain site & safety protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
Undergraduate (entering Junior year or above in the Fall of 2023) with 1-2 years of relevant lab experience in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics biophysics, or another science-related field.
- Base understanding of laboratory processes and applications. Advanced knowledge and skill in MS Office is preferred.
- Ability to adapt and gain new technical skills for a continual and rapidly changing environment. Must present a professional and positive service-oriented disposition.
- The successful candidate will be self-motivating, have good interpersonal and communication skills, be able to multi-task, be highly organized, have a strong desire to succeed in a multifunctional team setting, proven ability to meet goals working in a group of peers, and proven innovative thinking.
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $27.00 - $29.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final, individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
