Requirements
- A current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or a current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, or an applicable current temporary Registered Nurse permit.
- Maryland candidates must provide documentation of recent graduation from a school of nursing and obtain a permanent Registered Nurse license within 90 days of graduation.
- Ohio nurses must be currently licensed.
- Pennsylvania candidates must hold a current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse Temporary Permit and obtain permanent licensure within one year of graduation.
- West Virginia candidates must hold a current West Virginia Registered Nurse Grad Permit and obtain permanent licensure within 180 days of graduation.
- Temporary permits are valid only within the state of issuance and are not multi-state licenses.
- Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date.
- The role requires the ability to provide nursing care using the nursing process, apply competent clinical knowledge and skills, exercise independent nursing judgment, and assess patient data in relation to age-specific needs.
- The role requires the physical strength or stamina to lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, and carry materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
- The role requires working closely with others, working protracted or irregular hours, working around biohazards and infectious diseases, working with hands in water, and working around electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care within the ambulatory setting based on the nursing process and within the role and scope of practice.
- Perform preliminary patient assessments through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow-up with the health care team.
- Evaluate unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitate appropriate intervention.
- Implement appropriate clinical decisions and use expert peers or management when applicable.
- Accept accountability and use independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated.
- Use standards of care, standards of practice, scientific principles, established standards, and research findings to guide care delivery and decisions.
- Use resources effectively and evaluate patient responses during care delivery.
- Determine and revise priorities for direct and indirect patient-care activities based on patient acuity and available resources, and update the daily care plan with appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
- Use established patient-care support systems, including documentation, communication, and information systems.
- Provide educational instruction to patients and families with health care needs.
- Identify patient teaching and learning needs, evaluate the effectiveness of patient and family teaching, and document teaching in patient charts.
- Assist with orienting new employees according to the unit orientation plan.
- Apply information gained from educational experiences when providing patient care and instruction.
- Assume responsibility for the development of others and engage in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
- Foster the integration of staff and students into the health care team and facilitate incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision.
- Demonstrate skill in managing conflict situations and promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
- Exchange information relevant to specific patient assignments and interact with health care team members to meet patient-care needs.
- Participate in performance-improvement activities as appropriate.
- Use lift equipment and other patient-handling aids for transfers, lifting, and repositioning as indicated by the patient's profile and appropriate algorithms.
- Cover multiple clinic locations, with some travel as required.
Desired Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in nursing is preferred, or an Associates of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN) or Diploma with current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and completion of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing within 5 years of hire.
