ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Associate Digital Campaigner in the Communications & Marketing Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.
The ACLU Communications & Marketing Department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and also illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s transformational work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written content, creative branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to build a more perfect union.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Reporting to the Associate Director, Digital Campaigns Operations, the Associate Digital Campaigner will help execute email and text campaigns on priority issue areas across the organization with direction and support from their team. The Associate Digital Campaigner will work closely with their team leads to produce and deploy campaigns that increase the number of ACLU supporters and donors, expand engagement with these audiences, maximize online donations, and support the organization’s policy goals through targeted advocacy efforts.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
- Develop and deploy digital campaigns for ACLU national and affiliates, and leverage best practices related to email and text outreach
- Code and test responsive HTML and CSS emails using email marketing software; review and edit emails to ensure quality
- Produce and QA broadcast texts
- Produce and test online advocacy forms, donation forms, event forms, and other campaign landing pages
- Monitor, respond to, and complete production requests as assigned by the Associate Director
- Develop and maintain documentation of team processes and workflows for production
- Help execute compelling digital campaigns that drive supporters to take action and donate to the ACLU and ACLU affiliates
- Help implement A/B and multivariate split tests across email, text and web, and assist with reporting in collaboration with our Analytics department
- Support their team in identifying opportunities for high-impact digital engagement and advocacy campaigns through email and text channels
- Work cross-departmentally as well as with vendors, consultants and contractors to produce online text and email campaigns
- Assist with weekend email and text campaigns as part of a rotating coverage schedule. This includes off-hours production work, as needed, for live coverage of high-priority events or “breaking news” moments
- Contribute to a culture of continuous, data-driven learning and evaluation

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Demonstrated experience in digital marketing, online campaigning, or related fields
- Proficient using HTML and CSS to code responsive emails for multiple email clients
- Familiarity with a range of online campaigning tools, tactics and strategies
- Excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal communication skills; strong attention to detail, ability to write and deliver work product under deadlines, and commitment to high quality standards
- Basic constituent relationship management (CRM) system and email marketing platform experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
- Understanding of trends and best practices for communicating via email and SMS text message
- Experience executing broadcast texts
- Familiarity with creating basic reports, including pivot tables and graphs, in Microsoft Excel or similar
- Experience working with and interpreting web and email analytics preferred
- Drupal, Springboard, Salesforce, and Sailthru experience preferred
- A strong desire to test and learn, this includes a comfort with failure and a desire to learn from failures in order to improve
- Excellent collaboration qualities, ability to work in a dynamic environment with a fast-paced and passionate team
COMPENSATION
The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with our compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for each role based on geographic work location. The annual salary for this position is $92,731 (Level I), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY. Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
