View

UMC provides primary and preventive healthcare to residents in Kinney, Maverick, and Val Verde counties along the U.S.-Mexico border through nine service sites that offer pediatrics, OB/GYN, family and internal medicine, podiatry, and dental services, with in-house lab, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and WIC. Patients access coordinated care within a single network, using a sliding fee scale and accepting Medicaid, CHIP, Medicare, and private insurance to keep services affordable. As an FQHC and FTCA Deemed Health Center, UMC can serve patients regardless of ability to pay and provides federal liability protection for clinicians, with a multi-site, integrated model tailored to rural cross-border communities. The goal is to improve health outcomes for underserved families while reducing the broader healthcare system’s financial strain by expanding access to comprehensive, affordable care.
