Senior Director of Technical Design

Overview
Responsible for directing and managing the Technical Design department to ensure that the brand standards for fit and construction are followed throughout the garment categories.
Responsibilities
- Manages workflow and a team of 9 with 4 direct reports in Technical Design.
- Develops strategies and solutions to execute company’s vision in the most cost and time effective manner.
- Collaborates with CFT to obtain clear direction on design intent, fit direction and garment construction.
- Responsible for directing a creative process of developing new styles, bringing together creative design vision and merchandising information, through final production approvals.
- Responsible for establishing fit and construction standards to achieve current aesthetics, while improving comfort and functionality.
- Supervises and conducts live model fittings to ensure that garments reflect the original design concept and can be produced in a method that conforms to the schedule and cost structure set forth by the merchandising and production departments.
- Reviews, analyses and corrects factory patterns with the team daily. Works in Gerber software to review and analyze patterns.
- Creates and approves fit block patterns for core product.
- Communicates daily with the overseas agents, travels overseas and works with the agents and factories directly, building strong professional relationships with the overseas partners.
- Participates in building the production calendar and ensures that the tactical calendar deliverables are met.
- Attends milestone and leadership meetings to provide technical support to the CFT.
- Reviews and approves fit model invoices.
- Builds and maintains a diverse and motived Technical Design team, ready to take on more in the organization.
Skills and Requirements
- Minimum ten years’ experience in Technical Design and minimum 5 years in managing teams
- Proficiency in leading, supervising and giving direct reports clear goals, fostering a harmonious working environment and collaboration
- Strong patternmaking and draping skills and construction expertise in all garment categories
- Garment grading expertise in all garment categories
- Strong knowledge of production methods and processes
- Knowledge of fabric and yarn construction finishes and techniques
- Knowledge of garment and fabric testing
- Computer proficiency with MS Office; Outlook, Excel, Word as well as Gerber, PLM, Web PDM or equivalent, Adobe Illustrator
- Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a culture of inclusion and respect
- Excellent English communication skills - verbal and written
- Excellent time management, with a strong focus on priorities and overlapping deadlines
- Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
- Forward thinking, following market and fashion trends to identify and suggest new opportunities
Salary: $210,000 - 220,000
