Your Impact
As a Principal Systems Engineer in the video team you will bring a structured methodology to how devices are architected and designed to meet performance, reliability, interoperability and reusability objectives. You will use your process driven and modular design approach to define subsystems and enable a mission driven engineering organization to implement and achieve best in class solutions that deliver tangible value for our customers and the communities they serve. What you’ll do
Location: Scottsdale, AZ preferred; Open to Remote
Reports To: VP of Devices, HW
You will primarily be responsible for applying your systems engineering expertise to
- Review and provide input to product requirements for next generation video devices.
- Develop and analyze architectural approaches for different features and present recommendations.
- Develop systems architectures, block diagrams, and interaction diagrams for implementation.
- Simulate and estimate the subsystems capability relative to requirements
- Analyze power consumption requirements and develop solutions for runtime and thermal constraints.
- Analyze computational budget and develop optimized solutions for size and cost.
- Lead concept studies with internal and external development teams and present outcomes.
- Vet and define key engineering requirements for various engineering design and test teams.
- Manage requirements and provide traceability from PRD through V&V.
- Organize cross functional system reviews, and champion buy-in from stakeholders.
- Perform risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies.
- Close feedback loops on design characterizations and verification results.
What You Bring
- BS or MS in Electrical, Systems, or Computer Engineering fields.
- 15+ years ofsystemsengineering or embedded systemsdesign experience.
- 10+ years designing battery powered handheld embeddedsystems.
- 5+ years specifying products to enterprise quality standards.
- Ability to develop and manage complex device requirements with full traceability.
- Track record of developing high volume embedded products consisting of electrical, mechanical and firmware subsystems.
- Demonstrated leadership working cross functionally with various engineering designs teams, product stakeholders, and test teams.
- Well versed in technically specifying subsystem functions, interfaces and interactions.
- Writing of objective testableengineering requirements
- Documenting and writing of design technical specifications
- Experience with developing products to regulatory standards for worldwide use (CE, FCC, IEC, PTCRB).
Preferred Experiences
- 10+ years experience designing video camerasystems.
- 5+ years experience with reliabilityengineering for electromechanical subsystems.
- 10+ years integrating mobile wirelesssystemssuch as LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, BLE.
- 10+ years experience integrating embedded electrical and mechanical parts
- 5+ years experience with thermal management solutions for board level electronics.
- Performing engineering risk analysis and mitigation activities.

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 130,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 250,000 in the highest geographic market. The on target earnings range for this role is between USD 221,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 425,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
