Requirements
  • Experience within a medical center and Biomedical Engineering department, or experience working in or with the Veterans Health Administration, or understanding of Veterans Integrated Service Network, VA medical center, and Biomedical Engineering department operations.
  • A two-year associate degree or higher in an applied science, or equivalent military training.
  • At least three years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance, including at least one year of specialized experience in medical information systems and networking.
  • Current and advanced knowledge of computer virus protection software, software patches and upgrades, information security tools, electronics, computers, and network theory.
  • Competency in utilizing and maintaining computer- and server-based medical equipment, medical record databases, and proprietary and generic software.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, Health Level Seven, networking, network security, and Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine standards.
  • Experience maintaining, interfacing with, and troubleshooting networked medical equipment, including virtual local area network configuration, IP addressing, subnetting, and network security.
  • Ability to interpret, identify, and apply network engineering principles and practices, and distinguish networking problems from non-networking problems.
  • Understanding of regulatory agency requirements, industry regulatory requirements, and International Organization for Standardization standards.
  • Familiarity with the setup and application of network test equipment and tools.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required federal public trust clearance.
  • Proof of COVID vaccination and flu vaccination during flu season, or appropriate documentation supporting a medical or religious exemption.
  • A resume submitted in Microsoft Word format with dates included in each experience, education, and certification section.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on networked medical equipment to ensure functionality and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Diagnose and repair medical device malfunctions through corrective maintenance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and technical specifications.
  • Conduct incoming inspections of new medical equipment for safety compliance, functionality, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with information technology and cybersecurity teams to implement and maintain medical device security protocols protecting patient data from cyber threats.
  • Install, calibrate, and configure medical equipment according to manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor and address medical equipment hazard and safety recalls, coordinating with manufacturers and relevant departments.
  • Perform software repairs and updates on medical devices to resolve software issues, improve functionality, and ensure system compatibility.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections using computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to medical staff on operating and handling networked medical equipment.
  • Monitor industry trends, technological advancements, and regulations related to biomedical equipment technology and apply relevant knowledge to daily work.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and departments to support seamless equipment operations and patient care.
