Requirements
  • Registered Professional Nurse with a current license to practice in Pennsylvania or New Jersey, based upon work location.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required within five years of obtaining the position.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The role requires the physical ability to sit, stand, walk, write, type, hold charts, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, stoop, squat, and occasionally reach above shoulder level.
  • Hearing and vision sufficient for normal in-person and telephone conversations, near vision, far vision, color vision, and peripheral vision are required.
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise and serve as a clinical resource to staff.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for daily operations by planning, organizing, and supervising care for the assigned shift or department to assure patient safety and quality.
  • Select, motivate, and retain staff and initiate a formal recognition plan.
  • Facilitate department staff meetings and trainings relevant to the position.
  • Participate in activities that promote personal and professional development and serve on assigned hospital or unit-based councils.
  • Take an active role in department performance-improvement initiatives related to quality, safety, and patient experience, and lead and mentor staff in those initiatives.
  • Promote an environment that supports inquiry, creative thought, nursing education programs, and the development and application of evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Review staff performance, complete annual evaluations of assigned staff, assure staff competency, and initiate remedial actions when appropriate.
  • Act as a liaison with Clinical Risk Management and participate in event reviews, action planning, and resolution of complaints and grievances.
  • Communicate with patients, families, the multidisciplinary team, ancillary departments, and the manager to identify and resolve problems that may interfere with positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintain departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of direct clinical experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, required within five years of obtaining the position.
