Senior Staff Software Engineer — Data Team

CarePort Health, powered by WellSky, improves patient outcomes by providing solutions to guide patients to high-quality providers upon hospital discharge and to track patients — and results — in real-time across the care continuum.  

We are seeking a product- and team-focused Senior Staff Software Engineer with experience building powerful, user-friendly web applications using modern programming languages, frameworks, and tools.  The Senior Staff Software Engineer is a key member of the team who not only contributes great technical solutions that directly impact the business, but who generates creative ideas to improve our products and services.  The ideal candidate will take ownership of their work and is comfortable both making decisions and building consensus. 

A day in the life?

• You’ll build compelling features using state-of-the art tools and technologies with a focus on building great user experiences
• You’ll engage in the full product lifecycle as part of a cross-functional, agile team and gain deep understanding of the problems we need to solve
• You’ll craft highly scalable, robust, and maintainable services and APIs using best practices, including test-driven and behavior-driven development
• You’ll contribute to our culture of teaching and learning through code review, collaboration on features, giving technical presentations, and asking thoughtful questions
• You’ll ensure our processes and practices meet team and business needs in periodic retrospectives
• You’ll work every day to improve yourself and elevate your teammates

Do you have what it takes?

• You ship working, maintainable software in a timely fashion, and it meets customer and business needs
• You have 10+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable web application frameworks
• You enthusiastically engage with your peers in building great software
• You have strong experience with PostgreSQL or comparable relational database systems
• You have expertise in building modern, responsive web user interfaces
• You have experience with applications deployed in containerized environments (e.g., Docker) and desire to learn more about infrastructure-as-code
• You approach troubleshooting and problem-solving with curiosity and without blame
• You think clearly and communicate well
• You willingly share knowledge and learn from others
• You generously give praise when things go well
• You give candid, compassionate feedback when things need improvement
• You understand the value of Continuous Delivery/Deployment and like seeing code go to production as soon as possible
