Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required unless working under a student permit.
  • Candidates must be certified by the Indiana State Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing, with specified temporary eligibility for transferring CNAs and graduating CNA students awaiting Indiana certification.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word are required.
  • A thorough understanding of safe and effective nursing practices within the State of Indiana is required.
  • Candidates must be able to assist licensed nurses with procedures within the nurse aide scope of practice.
  • Candidates must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, function independently, and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Candidates must demonstrate personal integrity and tact when dealing with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and personnel.
  • Candidates must be able to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
  • Candidates must be able to prioritize tasks, duties, and responsibilities according to established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Candidates must protect confidential information and comply with Corporate Compliance and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Candidates must adhere to a professional code of ethics and relay information about a resident’s condition to appropriate staff members.
Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care, and dressing.
  • Feed residents, provide bedside water and snacks, and transfer residents to and from dining areas in accordance with nutritional plans of care.
  • Answer resident call lights and respond to requests for assistance promptly according to facility policy.
  • Maintain resident rooms by making beds or changing linens, cleaning bedside tables, and organizing personal belongings.
  • Observe and report unusual changes in residents’ appetite, skin condition, or behavior according to facility policy.
  • Offer emotional support and actively listen to residents to help build trust and promote independence in daily living.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of residents and their care to protect resident rights and privacy.
  • Document vitals and assistance provided in medical records according to facility policy.
  • Comply with safety requirements and infection-control measures while maintaining a clean work environment.
