Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or food science.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant industry experience.
  • Documented expertise in the subject areas demonstrated by registration/credential, diploma, transcript, certification, resume, and/or personal interview.
  • Knowledge current in nutrition, food science, dietetics, and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Competency in the professional discipline and instructional and evaluative techniques through continuing professional development.
  • Ability to use Blackboard, prepare PowerPoint presentations, use the internet to supplement instruction, and submit syllabi and grades electronically.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, co-workers, supervisors, and others.
  • Ability to organize topic-specific material and develop student learning objectives and assignments.
  • Ability to manage several projects at once and recognize students' strengths and weaknesses to modify teaching methods or create an individualized learning plan.
  • Ability to maintain professional certifications.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and teach all assigned courses.
  • Follow department course outlines and guidelines for course content and best practices.
  • Develop and/or utilize instructional strategies, techniques, and delivery methods designed to meet individual student learning styles.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and grades.
  • Foster a safe, civil, and trusting learning environment.
  • Post and maintain office hours.
  • Use the approved department syllabus or develop a syllabus using the approved template, including an evaluation procedure and assignment calendar aligned with the course outline.
  • Prepare lesson plans and conduct classes during scheduled times using department-approved texts.
  • Teach to the student learning outcomes.
  • Create and evaluate assignments, evaluative measures, and activities appropriate to the class.
  • Use the college's course management system for assigned courses and department matters.
  • Submit requested documents, including syllabi, grade books, attendance records, and other files, to the department's course management site.
  • Access the Owens email account at least every other day and respond to required messages within forty-eight hours.
  • Open and read official college notifications, respond to student inquiries outside class, meet with students outside class when necessary, and check the campus mailbox at least once a week.
  • Follow all Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act guidelines.
  • Attend department and college workshops, training sessions, development activities, and meetings as requested.
  • Participate in student learning assessment activities.
  • Maintain currency of knowledge and skill in the specialization and areas of instruction.
  • Perform other department duties as assigned.
