Requirements
  • Bachelor of Metrology, Surveying, Engineering, or a related program with 7+ years of experience
  • Master of Geodesy with 5+ years of experience or a PhD with 3+ years of experience
  • In lieu of degree, 15+ years of relevant experience in surveying, alignment, or quality assurance fields, preferably at a particle physics laboratory
  • Must have experience with field surveying techniques and best practices
Responsibilities
  • Manage the survey and quality assurance programs for the detector installation
  • Test new installations using survey and QA processes while checking technical details and making sure all required documentation is available
  • Evaluate proposals for new installations and developments to determine survey, alignment, and quality requirements
  • Review alignment, metrology and related work in coordination with LBNF/DUNE Installation team
  • Develop and maintain high accuracy medium and large-scale geodetic networks to meet positioning criteria of the LBNF/DUNE experiment installation
  • Evaluate technological advances in the applications of geodesy, alignment, and mapping
  • Develop and improves processes for data acquisition, quality control analyses, and data validation for database and archival requirements
  • Analyze resource requirements and acts as liaison for all communication and work requests between existing beam lines, experiments and the assigned metrology group
  • Direct project activities of junior staff and metrology teams
  • Help junior staff and cross-functional partners succeed by managing project work and quality standards
  • Prepare technical correspondence and reports, authors or co-authors scientific papers for publication or for presentation at technical meetings, conferences, and workshops
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Abide by and are responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position
Desired Qualifications
  • Preferred to have experience with laser trackers and Spatial Analyzer software
  • Understanding of quality control and assurance procedures and processes
