Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are required.
  • General computer experience and the ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly are required.
  • The employee must be able to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per day, including 4 or more hours at a time.
  • The employee must frequently use hands and fingers for data entry.
  • The employee must frequently walk and be able to push up to 250 pounds in a wheelchair.
  • The employee must occasionally carry or lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Hearing sufficient for normal conversation and general vision are required.
Responsibilities
  • Correctly identify and validate patients in the hospital information system to maintain accurate electronic medical records, and report possible identity theft situations for escalation.
  • Maintain knowledge of network policies for patient identification, including Mark for Merge, Chart Corrections, and Patient Look-Up.
  • Complete pre-registration and post-registration activities, including demographics, emergency contacts, diagnostic orders, primary care and referring providers, diagnoses, insurance and guarantor verification, real-time insurance eligibility, point-of-service cash collections, and registration-related work queue errors.
  • Cross-train in all areas of the assigned location or region, including outpatient and Emergency Department areas as applicable.
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors throughout the facility and monitor and enforce visitor policy when applicable.
  • Answer internal and external calls on the department or facility line, provide appropriate information, and answer questions about the facility and its services.
  • Promote use of the MyChart patient portal and patient self-service capabilities.
  • Oversee and assist patients with Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology, including monitoring online self-scheduled arrivals and the patient journey.
  • Contact the SLPG practice or Network Prior Authorization Department to obtain required insurance referrals and pre-certifications before service when they are not documented in the chart.
  • Obtain medical license numbers, National Provider Identifiers, and UPINs through appropriate websites for new provider entries to ensure accurate routing and claim submission.
Desired Qualifications
  • A certificate or degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
  • An insurance background is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Previous medical administrative experience or healthcare-related education courses is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Epic health information system is preferred.
