Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience – High School Diploma and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship – United States citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – ability to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Must possess a current and valid American Welding Society certified welding inspector (CWI) certificate, ASNT SNT TC 1A level II liquid penetrant (PT) and visual inspection (VT) qualifications.
  • Working knowledge of ASNT, ASME B31, AWS B2.1, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.6, AWS D9.1, and ASME boiler and pressure vessel codes/specs/standards.
  • Must be able to produce isometric sketches for documentation purposes by hand or CAD.
  • Must pass a practical exam conducted by the ORNL NDE Level III program manager.
  • Fall protection training and equipment will be provided by ORNL.
  • Must have written and verbal communication and the ability to use basic office software (e.g. Word, Excel, time management software, etc.) and be able to make isometric sketches.
Responsibilities
  • Report to the Fabrication Instrumentation & Inspection Division (FIID) Welding Services Program Manager.
  • Perform work in both a shop and field environments and could be individual or working on a team.
  • Knowledge of shop and field fabrication techniques, and a strong welding background is preferred.
  • Nondestructive Examination (Nondestructive Examination) /welding examinations,
  • testing and inspection of steam valves,
  • pressure vessels,
  • inspection of fixed ladders,
  • piping components,
  • structural assemblies, and
  • other fabrication assemblies.
  • Support required repair work and new construction/fabrication.
Desired Qualifications
  • ASNT SNT TC 1A Level II magnetic particle (MT) yoke inspection qualification is also preferred.
  • Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing experience is preferred.
