Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in applied machine learning, artificial intelligence, or related engineering roles.
  • Experience building, training, fine-tuning, or evaluating modern machine learning models in production or research environments.
  • Experience with reinforcement learning or reinforcement learning for large language models, including reinforcement learning from human feedback, reinforcement learning from artificial intelligence feedback, group relative policy optimization, proximal policy optimization, direct preference optimization, or similar techniques.
  • Strong skills in dataset creation, curation, and evaluation, including designing benchmarks, labeling strategies, and evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience designing and running rigorous experiments, analyzing results, and using data to drive model improvements.
  • Familiarity with large language models, reasoning models, and the open-source model ecosystem.
  • Strong software engineering skills and experience building reliable machine learning pipelines and tooling.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-agency startup environment where priorities evolve quickly and employees help define what to build next.
Responsibilities
  • Build and improve the machine learning systems that power Macroscope's core artificial intelligence capabilities.
  • Improve model quality through high-quality evaluation datasets, rigorous experimentation, and model training.
  • Determine which models perform best, why they perform the way they do, and how to continuously improve them.
  • Own large parts of the model development lifecycle, including building and maintaining evaluation datasets, designing experiments, training and fine-tuning models, using reinforcement learning where appropriate, and analyzing results to drive product decisions.
  • Participate in research that advances the company's capabilities and stay current on the latest reinforcement learning training techniques.
  • Partner with product and backend engineering teams to integrate new models into production and help shape artificial intelligence-powered software engineering products.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Golang is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed training, preference optimization, synthetic data generation, evaluation frameworks, Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, Temporal, or building internal machine learning tooling.

Macroscope provides an AI-powered software development analytics platform that connects to a company’s GitHub to understand and improve its codebase. It analyzes abstract syntax trees to map code structure and reviews pull requests in real time to detect bugs, explain issues in plain language, and suggest fixes. For managers and non-technical staff, it offers dashboards showing developer time on updates, AI-generated summaries, and data on project contributors, with integrations to Jira, Linear, and Slack. The goal is to give teams a clear, AI-assisted view of how work gets done to speed up bug fixes, improve code quality, and transparently track development progress.

What believers are saying

  • Macroscope launched Murmur on September 3, 2026 and expanded Detection Mode August 28.
  • The August 25, 2026 site says 4X less noise, SOC 2 Type II.
  • A September 2025 Series A closed at $30 million, giving runway for hiring.

What critics are saying

  • CodeRabbit, Greptile, and Graphite attack Macroscope's GitHub-only positioning with broader integrations.
  • Macroscope's benchmark-heavy marketing is self-published, inviting buyer skepticism and procurement pushback.
  • GitHub, Copilot, or Claude can bundle code review, crushing standalone pricing by 2027.

What makes Macroscope unique

  • Macroscope uses AST-based codewalkers for whole-repo review, not diff-only prompting.
  • Kayvon Beykpour, Joseph Bernstein, and Rob Bishop bring Twitter-scale engineering credibility.
  • Usage-based pricing ties spend to pull requests, not headcount, matching agent-heavy teams.

Macroscope Secures $30M Series A Funding

Lightspeed is leading a $30M Series A funding round for Macroscope, an AI-powered tool for teams, founded by Kayvon Beykpour, Joe Bernstein, and Rob Bishop. This brings Macroscope's total funding to $40M. The platform uses AI to provide real-time insights into codebases, reducing the need for meetings and JIRA tickets. It traverses the Abstract Syntax Tree to offer comprehensive code understanding and automated bug fixing, outperforming competitors like Code Rabbit and Graphite.
